Selfie sticks

So security is very tight this week but I still saw several people with selfie sticks. How did they sneak them in? A little concerning considering they are banned :(

Selfie sticks are no longer confiscated at security checkpoints. The new procedure is that guests in possession of one are instructed to drop it off at a merchandise location to be tagged for package pickup.

I wouldn't be surprised to see ride stoppages due to these people "forgetting" to turn in their selfie sticks and using them on rides. It'll be interesting to see how long this new procedure lasts.

FWIW: Seeing very few in Mk now. Have only seen one the last 3 days I've worked and that was in Town Sq..

That's dumb. It should be handled right at the front before it's even an issue at a ride or anywhere else in the parks.

This spring I was at HS walking in & a group guide tried to claim his selfie stick was his "flag" for the group (he had tied some fabric on the end). The CM was having none of it & took it right to Guest Relations to be turned in.

"Oh, please go out of your way to turn it in and remember to pick it back up. Or, you can carry it around with you and wait for someone to say something keeping in mind we likely won't".

Cause that ALWAYS works.

Yeah, that will work well.

I'm so happy that sefie sticks are banned but it's too little too late for us since our family had two single riders ruin our ride pic by their sticks obscuring my kids' faces on their very first ride on TT.

I hate those dumb things!

My concern was that security wasn't catching something that has a shape similar to a weapon and people are sneaking them in. We saw several people using them on rides and one kid film the entire tiki room attraction without anyone saying anything to him.

You can easily do that with a hand too though. Heck I accidentally obscured my sister on her wedding night in her wedding dress in ToT

Oops!

maybe I'm drawing a weird line in the sand, but I feel like your situation was an innocent oopsie. A selfie stick seems like an intentional photo killer to me. Like, you are sticking it out and in the way on purpose.

I think selfie sticks are ridiculous and I would never use one. I just wanted to point out photos can be obscured really easily without them too

Last week they were simply refusing entry to those who had them. Saw someone at AK get sent back to put it in their car.
