Selfie sticks at resort meals?

I'm considering Ohana breakfast for a solo trip. Because there won't be anyone with me, I was wondering if I could bring a selfie stick to take photos with the characters? I know sometimes you can have luck having another guest take a photo, but don't really want to rely on that. And I suck at regular selfies, as well as cutting off most of the character!

Banned at the parks but resorts...that I know

Go for it

Just ask your server if they can take it for you. That’s what I always do.

The server isn't always readily available when the characters are at your table. However, some characters at some breakfasts will have a handler nearby who could take it. But, like PP said, they aren't banned from resorts so I'd say you'd be fine doing that.

Lesley, I know you aren’t planning to film yourself but a small handheld tripod might be easier. That way you could bring it into the parks too, and if you did want to film anything it would make it more stable. I really like mine and aside from vlogging I’d probably even use it for filming night shows/concerts for just my own viewing. They don’t extend as far as a selfie stick, but I think it’s enough for a selfie. I always had trouble with selfie sticks because they’re ridiculously long.

Hmm! I'll have to look at various options! Thanks!

IME servers and handlers take some of the worst pictures. Either they are sick of doing it or every phone is a little different. I would take your own photo, i've always been disappointed with the ones I got from others. Always very unflattering, kid blinking blah blah blah.

Please just ask someone to take your picture.

These things should be banned from any place civilized people go.

And the next time someone hits me with one I'm going to see about pressing charges for assault

When I did solo character meals and there wasn't a server nearby I'd ask the character to help me find someone to take our picture. Who can resist Mickey in full panto asking you to take pictures? I'm also proactive about asking nearby families if they'd all like to be in a picture together so that they're more likely to remember me a few seconds later when it's my turn to need an extra hand.

I think OP asked if a selfie stick can be used at a resort character meal, not for opinions about whether or not it should be done.

The answer is yes. Selfie sticks are allowed at resort character meals. Have fun, OP!

If she’s talking about an extendable one, yes those are banned.

If she means a non extendable one, those aren’t banned. Fwiw.

Not sure a non extendable would be good for a character photo, but I feel the distinction is important.

At 'Ohana??

I don't think they are banned, but... I can only imagine Stitch when he sees a selfie stick. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::stitch::stitch::stitch:

When people use them in the parks they seem to forget there are other humans on the planet. They are lethal. So glad they were banned in the parks

Another alternative that I've used several times is that I hand my camera/phone to the character and whisper in his ear, "I'd really like to have my picture taken with you. Do you know anyone who'd take our picture?" Most times, the character just hands my phone to a server he knows and picture taken. However, sometimes, the character runs over to an adjacent table and signals frantically for the person to take our picture. This always is good for lots of laughs. No one dares say "No" to Mickey, Goofy, or whoever. And I can just hear the conversation when they get home, "We were just sitting there eating our breakfast, when all of a sudden, Mickey shows up with a camera and...." As an added plus, I've met lots of nice people this way.

1) No . . . and rightfully so.
2) It is far too easy to poke someone with the Selfie-Stick.
3) That is why they are outlawed at WDW.
4) Some folks say, "I am careful."
5) Nope, they are too busy trying to line-up themselves in the frame to look out for others.
6) As mentioned above, ask a CM to take the photo using your camera.
