Selfie stick

If you're using a cell phone for photos, ask a teenage girl. They really are the experts. People are always asking me because I carry a nice DLSR. But if it's a phone, I always hand it off to my teenage daughter.

Ha, I do the same thing! People are always asking me to take a photo and I don't mind at all, but DD17 is way better at it than I am if it's on a phone so I hand it to her. And teenage girls in general are usually pretty happy to help a family, at least the ones I know.

If you check Amazon there are quite a few non-extendable options. Most are designed for use with a GoPro, since even a short handle really helps stability with the small action cameras. The GoPro branded stuff can be pricey, but there are plenty of generic/cheaper options. You may just have to look for mount that will allow you to go from your camera/phone to the GoPro mount.

We have a GoPro handheld tripod. It doesn't extend but we use it to hold our GoPro. I was hoping this wasn't going to be an issue when we go. You really need the handheld piece when using a GoPro.

I figure if it isn't against any rules and I don't get in anyone else's way, it shouldn't matter to anyone else.

So many people will ask me to take a pic for them when I am with my daughters (20s), nieces (teens) and granddaughter (6), and I usually pass it off to them. Even the 6yo is better than me!!

As long as it doesn't extend, my understanding is you're good. I've seen several folks who use a gorilla pod as a handle, if you're setup is similar, I'd assume you'll be fine. I'm planning on having a couple of options. I have a gorilla pod and I have the GoPro 3-way grip that I'll bring without the extension.

Yup, we have the gorilla pod and use it as a handle. Perfect! Thanks for responding.

Malcon10T- Thanks. That is where I saw that it is against the rules at Disney, hence my question in the original post. I was just talking about using a selfie stick in general.

Just ordered a Grip Dat that I think is going to be great for us. It doesn't extend. The handle also comes apart so that we can place the phone on something, because the base is still attached, and use the handle as a remote to take pictures. You charge it and it uses Bluetooth to take the pictures. It was very reasonable- $29.99. Hoping it works as well as we want it to. It also works with GoPro.

What about those of us who answered throughly AND offered opinions? ;) j/k

And my opinion was given mainly so people knew I'm not biased towards them and therefore giving wrong info about extendable vs not. Not to get at you.

Yet people have been doing it for ages.

Doing it at Disney is as safe as doing it in a vegas casino. You're on camera everywhere and the thief will be caught.

Plus doing selfies with the screen side camera is yielding worse pictures than having someone else take it. The good camera is generally on the other side. When you can see yourself you're using the lesser camera.

People urging asking others to help are also trying to do people a favor by getting better (in every way) pictures.

Sure, but there's also nothing inherently wrong with it, as long as you're using it safely.
