Pardon the old woman in me....but I read on a trip report no selfie sticks. My husband and I are taking a trip alone and I bought one to take our pics. ?????

I still don't know what those are but I remember seeing the many signs saying to not use them. But I use my arm and camera anyway for selfies

Yea they're banned thankfully. Security checks for them upon entering the parks. If they see you have one they'll take it to guest relations and you'll have to pick it up when you exit the park.
I occasionally noticed that sometimes there will be a Guest Relations CM near the bag check that can take and tag selfie sticks and give the guest the pickup receipt.

You will be surrounded by people, many of whom would be more than happy to take a picture of the two of you, for when you must have a picture of the two of you.

(I can count on a hand how many pictures like that I have of me and DH since we got married...all but one was taken by other people...our pictures from vacations tend to be of things *we saw*, not of us in front of things we saw)

Selfie sticks aren't permitted in the parks. However, I'm sure you'll have no trouble asking someone to take your picture. Plenty of guests are willing to do it, and it would be even nicer if you offered to do the same for them. PP Photographers will also take pictures of you with your personal camera, provided you wait in the same line as guests using Memory Maker.

Amen!!! Yes, I'll take a couple of pictures of myself (or *gasp* ask someone to take one of me) when I go somewhere, but honestly I AND the people who see my pictures are FAR more interested in what I saw than what I looked like that day.

The more I see people who seem terrified to actually talk to a person ("YES! I don't have to go to the front desk!" or "What? Ask someone to take a picture of me??" for example), the more I think Citibank sadly got the way things are going right with their commercial where the family is in the airport...
Parent: Who knows if we'll even get service on the island.
Kids (buried in their devices): What??? No service???
Parent: You might actually have to talk.
Kid: To each other?
Mom: We like it.
Kid 1: Should we?
Kid 2: No. *horrified look*

I find it sad that people are so terrified of actual human interaction anymore that the thought of checking into a resort in person or asking someone to please take a picture creates such horror. I love my computer and phone, sure. But there's nothing like actual human interaction to make a day better.

Maybe. Maybe not. Walking down Main St last Friday a CM supervisor approached a man using one and simply made him put it away. He took his phone off of it and put it in his pocket. Lost track of him so no idea if he took it out again or not. I suspect he entered with it in his pocket vs. a bag so security wouldn't have had a chance to find it
I guess seeing them in the parks is like the wheeled coolers (we saw dozens last week) and CMs feeling generous and allow things to go that they shouldn't.
Bag check folks did seem to be focused on looking for them. We have a Go Pro handle and after a couple days I had DH leave it in his pocket vs. my bag since they always took a long time to examine it to make sure it didn't extend.

Thanks so much for admitting that. I didn't know what they were and I was too embarrassed to admit it. But then I went to Yellowstone in June-those *** selfie sticks were everywhere! And lots of them by people to take pictures of themselves standing next to a Buffalo. Then they wonder why so many people were being attacked by buffalo in YNP. OK, rant over!

I disagree - I think it's very important to be in your pictures. Photos are priceless. I 'd much rather look at photos of people than things. We purchase MemoryMaker and do arm-length selfies.

Also, I'm not terrified of human interaction, but I'm very unlikely to ask anybody to take a photo for me. I'm protective of my phone and camera - especially since I had a camera break into a million pieces after asking somebody to get a photo of us...and they dropped it. People will often offer and sometimes we agree, but we get that they're probably really asking "will you get a picture of US?" - and we are happy to do that. Mostly, I don't want to interrupt anybody else's vacation. That's one of the reasons I'm happy to pay for Memory Maker.

My last trip was before I even knew selfie sticks existed. One of the most fun aspects of the trip was trading off taking pictures of other families for having them take pictures of mine.

Photopass photographers will take pics with your camera. Have them take one with theirs, then hand them yours. Disney tells you to do that, it's not wrong.

You can just have them do it with yours. No need to take one with theirs.

I always take one with their camera and my camera it I feel it makes them happy instead of just here's my camera plus sometimes their lighting is better!

Sorry no selfish sticks however we are all more than happy to take pictures for you and your husband

I'm with you 100% on this. Nowadays you can google up a thousand pictures of the Castle or what have you, but you're never going to have another chance to take a photo of yourself at 20, or your kids when they were five, etc. I don't take them to fill up my Facebook with them, but to keep as precious family mementos. I wish we had more photos of my grandparents when they were young.
