I disagree - I think it's very important to be in your pictures. Photos are priceless. I 'd much rather look at photos of people than things. We purchase MemoryMaker and do arm-length selfies.

Years down the road family can look at the pictures and enjoy what people looked like/wore/experienced when they were there. I got Memory Maker last month because I felt like my pics were always of my children and things but very rarely included me or me with my children. I want my children to have pics of me and with me because yes, there will come a point in time when I am gone and if I am always the one behind the camera they will have nothing to share/remember through the years. It was kind of funny, recently my daughter (13) has become a selfie queen and uses my phone a ton to take photos that are then posted here or there. One of my FB friends commented on how it was nice to see me in the pics lately to which I responded that was all on my daughter for being great at selfies!!

Sorry, no selfie sticks in the parks but you could still take it and use it to capture other moments of your trip!

I'm with you 100% on this. Nowadays you can google up a thousand pictures of the Castle or what have you, but you're never going to have another chance to take a photo of yourself at 20, or your kids when they were five, etc. I don't take them to fill up my Facebook with them, but to keep as precious family mementos. I wish we had more photos of my grandparents when they were young.

I never said I'm in NO pictures of vacation. But I don't need to bore my friends, family, or myself by putting my mug in every single one. There is a time and a place.

I find it sad that people are so terrified of actual human interaction anymore that the thought of checking into a resort in person or asking someone to please take a picture creates such horror. I love my computer and phone, sure. But there's nothing like actual human interaction to make a day better.

Not everyone feels the same way. The world needs less introvert-shaming.

Pardon the old woman in me....but I read on a trip report no selfie sticks. My husband and I are taking a trip alone and I bought one to take our pics. ?????

If you have a "handle" that doesn't extend - it is allowed. No problem.

While using selfie sticks were fine for not on an attraction, people were using them ON attractions. So, the warnings of "keep your arms and legs, hands and feet inside the ride vehicle" were being obeyed, the sticks were well beyond the reach of safety on the attractions. So, Disney couldn't just say "no selfie stick on attractions" because people could and probably would bring them into the parks saying they would just use them for fireworks and outside the attractions because when there is an inch, there is a mile.

I still cringe when I remember the photo of a guest took of a guest a few seats in front of him on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The guy had a selfie stick way out over the ride vehicle the entire time. If that selfie stick and camera had dropped or struck something, well, it wouldn't have been nice no matter what.

Agreed but there was a time (I'm 53) when taking photos of yourself required a timer on your camera. There were no cell phones. I have tons of pictures of my family but my father is rarely in them because he was taking the picture and he preferred it that way. Some people did grow up that way

"Selfish Sticks" Haven't heard that one before. I like that. It's not to say that the sticks aren't good for some places, but a crowded park is not the place. I agree, there are plenty of people who will be glad to assist at taking photos.

It's not just the rides, though that is a compelling argument. Many museums ban selfie sticks.

I believe there are two additional issues: First, selfie sticks don't stand out in your peripheral vision, which is what you rely on when walking to avoid bumping into things. In other words, it's too easy for other people to walk into them. Second, when you're focused on positioning the camera/phone using a selfie stick, you're not observing the other people walking by, and it's too easy for you to accidentally swing the selfie stick in a way that hits someone else.

They're not appropriate for any place that has moderate crowds doing a lot of walking, particularly in locations where there are lots of distractions demanding their attention.
