Hi,

I'm in the middle of my second CP - I had such a good experience with the first one I reupped, so I've been here since August. But now, my mom is going to have some surgery at the end of March, and I want to be there with her and help her afterwards - I'm going to have to self term. I'm afraid if I tell them right now, they'll just fire me, and what I'd like to do is term my CP just a few days before her surgery. Do you think if I tell them why I'm leaving, and the date I need to leave, they'll let me stay until then? And I'm sure I'll be on restriced hire status, but will they put the reason I'm leaving in my records?

Thanks,

DD

In my opinion, definitely talk to one of your managers ASAP. Maybe pick the manager you feel is the nicest or easiest to speak to. My roommate told her managers she was leaving two weeks before she actually left and they let her work up until the day she left. And her reason wasn't nearly as good as yours ("I miss my family and I don't want to be away from home for Christmas" um, yeah, she knew about that before she started her CP).

You'll leave on a better note if they know you're leaving, and exactly why you're leaving. Most managers are nice and understanding about that, so I wouldn't worry too much about them terming you. But just keep in mind you still won't necessarily be leaving on "good" terms with the company either since you're not fulfilling the contract (not that it's your fault or that you want to be breaking the contract, but I'm just speaking from a company standpoint). I hope it all works out okay for you! Most of all though, I hope your mom is okay. :)
