Self Parking at WDW Parks

We are staying off property this December. How is self parking at the Parks (MK, Epcot, AK & HS)? I think I read that it's $14/day to park. Is it difficult to find parking? Is the parking far from the entrance? Is the parking covered? I'm pre-planning how to navigate this with DS (1). I like the idea of being able to get in my car and come and go when we're ready and not have to wait for a bus. Especially with a one year old. TIA for responding

3. No. If you arrive in the morning you'll be directed to a spot.
4. It depends on what time you get there. There are trams available.

At MK, you'll be parking at the Ticket and Transportation Center and then taking the monorail or boat to the park entrance. It might be helpful to go to Google Earth or Google Maps satellite view and look at each park - that always helps me get a better idea of location and distance.
