When we arrive can we go directly to the hotel's parking lot, unload the car and then check-in, or do we have to go in to check-in first and then come back to unload and park? Thanks!!!

We checked in first. You can just unload your car at the front and then go park. Why would you want to park first?

We park then check in and usually wait until the room is ready before we unload. This avoids the valet and bell tip$ and puts a couple of extra bucks in my son's jeans instead.

You can unload yourself and roll the cart inside to the holding area. Then go park the car yourself. We saw lots of people unloading themselves at RPR last year. We had a bad night offsite the night before so we just let them unload for us. LOL!

We were at HRH last week, we arrived on Thursday (Feb 22) and when we stopped at the main gate, the gate person said that self parking was not available today, only valet .... we were forced to use valet (and pay for valet) on that first day. We asked for our car on Friday and moved it to self parking.

... my understanding is that they do that sometimes when it is really busy ... not sure that I understand why, just an FYI.

WOW. This is very good information. Seems like if you are forced to use Valet they wouldn't charge you for it.

Is the self parking for RPR easy to get to? We will be visiting for the first time soon and not sure if we should just do valet.

Self parking is easy at RPR. The girl in the gate house will direct you to go to the right as you enter where self parking is straight then to the left. The lot is large and the only time I've seen it full was during a hurricane. You can go to the right under the porte cochere and unload your luggage and still self park. If the room is not ready your luggage sits in the lobby by the valet desk until you can get in. With bell service the common tip is $1 or $2 per bag. My wife can not figure that out. She has to pack 14 little bags that would fit into 2 of our large suitcases. During the hurricane we even brought a trunk full of food/snacks. We self park at RPR because I get up early and go to the McDonald's on Sandlake to get the family breakfast. We usually getour van 3 or 4 times which would mean $10 in valet tips.

HRH lot is small and fills up. If the HRH lot is full, you could park in the PBH parking garage, which is covered and doesn't have the ant problem. Then take the shuttle bus back to the HRH. If I was staying at the HRH and driving my own car, I'd park it in the garage at the PBH because they have a ton of spaces. I'm surprised the HRH hasn't caught on to this idea yet.

For the RPR, we checked in, then parked our car in the grass along the road that goes around the hotel. We went in thru the side door and it was close to our room.
