Can selective coloring be done with Paint shop?
If so how?
Thanks

is that the same as paint shop pro? If so then yes! PSP will do for $90 what adobe photoshop will do for $800!

open your picture,,,hit layer/duplicate....this puts duplicate of your pic over top the original.....then hit hue saturation/colorize, remove all color...you now have a b&w layer over top a color layer...use the erase tool to erase the b&w layer wherever you want color...

Thanks Mickey88! :thumbsup2 I tried selective coloring following your directions. I did it!
I just have to practice my erasing technique.

here is another method I sometimes use

1. open your photo
2. enlarge it by scrolling your mouse wheel
3.pic your selection tool. I use freehand smart edge
4. slowly click around the edges of the part you wish to separate
5. once you have completely traced the subject,
6. choose selections, invert
7. your selected area is now the part around the main subject
8. choose adjust, hue and saturation, then colorize
9.then slide the sliders all the way to the left removing all color from the background, click OK
10, you should now have a colored subject with B&W background
11. right click anywhere in the pic toremove your selection tool
12, save copy as, to avoid losing your original

RivaLJ - which version of PSP are you using? I mostly use PSP 8 (haven't fully decided to upgrade to the latest yet... guess I'm draggin' my feet a little!) and instead of erasing my layers, I always use the masking ability.

I never used the masking technique until I worked for a studio a few years ago, and they showed me the ins-and-outs of it... the great thing about using masks is that if you make a mistake, or better yet, later see that you've made one, you can just paint over the mask with the opposite color (usually black or white) and you're back to the look of your original. (If you use shades of grey on the mask, you get varying degrees of transparency... sometimes it's a neat effect.)

I know I'm not explaining it very well... but I'm pretty sure there are tutorials out there on the 'net... somewhere... somebody's got to have a better way of telling it than I do! (I can do it, I just can't teach it!)

Good luck, experiement, and have some fun!

Mickey--will try the other method of colorizing.

Sandy- I am using the trial version of PSP-X. Wanted to see if I could do any of this stuff before purchasing.

mickey- just tried the other way- seems to be working.
thanks for your help.

Sandy- seems to be version 10 of PSP-x
