I need some advice from all of you who have experienced a Dessert Party. How many desserts do you recommend? How many are too many, or too little? What particular dessert's are the better then others? Tell me all the good, the bad, and the down right bad?

I guess it depends on how many guests you have and what their tastes are. When we were planning ours, we chose 7 different items. 3 of the "classics" that people tend to love and one each that we chose and 2 of the more simple options. We ended up turning our dessert party into a full dinner package so it didn't pan out as we planned but our list was

Zebra Domes
School Bread
Dole Whip
Butterfinger Cup Cakes
Mickey Ice Cream Bars
Popcorn
Cookies

We had 7 people.

I'd say it depends on where your dessert party falls. Is it a welcome party, or after the wedding, etc....?

For us, it's ending the wedding night. By that time, guests will have had a cocktail hour, buffet dinner, cake, and an open bar...they're going to be pretty stuffed since all of that is happening in the span of a few hours. We're doing a modified buffet with fruit, two dessert options, and leaving it at that. We figure each person will probably have one piece of something and some coffee or another drink.

The Dessert Party is on the last thing on the wedding day. The wedding is at two, with dinner at 5:30, and then the Dessert Party to end the day. We have about 25 to 30 guests. We are not doing a full reception, or cake persay. We were going to do the Desserts in place of cake.

My planner suggested that I submit to her our "must" haves, and then some "would" like to have items:

The list is :

Chocolate Peanut butter Marshmallow bars- happy to say the chef said they would do!!
Fruit Tarts
Mickey rice krispie treats
Mickey Chocolate covered pretzels
tie-dyed cheesecakes
popcorn
Mickey Ice Cream bars
and the fruit salad.

We are waiting to see what the price comes in for around 25 people. Then I will see how many we do.

What do you think? Anything I should add, or take away?

Sounds good to me — not a lot there that can be screwed up! ;)

We are doing the Celebration Buffet that is mainly ice cream and all the trimmings for it. It also has brownies and cookies and some fruit. Plus coke and rootbeer if people want to make floats. We might add an apple crisp or something else that would go well with ice cream on it. Our DP is 6 hours after the end of our reception, but we figure that most people will end up going to Epcot and doing the F&FW the rest of the day. We figure that keeping it to ice cream and a few goodies would be good for our guests, since there is always room for ice cream! Also, ice cream is one DH's 3 favorite foods, so it was a no-brainer for us.
