i was home with my kids yesterday and had a seizure. My whole family is pretty shook up especially my 17 year old son. I follow up with my doctor tomorrow. I am aleady taking a med that is antiseizue but works for something else so this shouldnt of happened. I hit my head real hard when I fell on my tile. I am still dizzy and dazed. they did a cat scan, bllod, chest xray and one other test I cant remember right now.

has anyone ever had one? I am scared to get up and even walk across the room let alone be by myself.

Did you see a neurologist? Are you sure it was a seizure and not a stroke? Even if you are on anti-seizure meds you can still have a seizure. From your post and your typing, I would be concerned that it was more than a seizure. Your posts are generally pretty clear and this one is rambling and you have some typing issues. I would be concerned about THAT.

My step mom had one last year in September. We were 3 hours from home visiting the Museum of Science and industry in Chicago. It was my DH, myself, my 2 DS's and my step mom. She stepped away for a couple minutes to use the restroom, and never came back. After about 20 minutes I went to look for her in the restroom, and found it blocked off. There was a security guard there asking if I was looking for someone, and when I said I was he told me she was in the bathroom recovering from a siezure. By chance there was a doctor in the bathroom who witnessed it happening, and stayed with her to help. She also hit her head on the sink and the tile floor.

It was a total shock. She never had one before. She was 51 years old. The paramedics came and insisted she go to the hospital in the ambulance. So I went with her to the hospital and my DH and kids stayed at the museum. They ended up admitting her to the hospital, and my dad had to drive all the way to Chicago to be with her. When she got home she followed up with her doctor. They ended up blaming it on an antibiotic she was taking for a bladder infection. But, she couldn't drive for 6 months, wasn't supposed to be in charge of children, wasn't supposed to cook... All for 6 months.

It was very scary. She hasn't had another one since then. Hopefully yours is caused by something like that and won't be repeated.

I'm not sure if what I have is seizures, but I know how scary it is to have an unpredictable problem like that! I have severe disabling vertigo/dizzy attacks. They can happen anywhere and it just sucks sometimes! I just had an EEG yesterday...don't know the results yet. I kind of hope they are partial seizures because at least I could be treated with meds. There are quite a few different anti-seizure meds out there, so you might just need to change your scrip. I am on Keppra XR and I think it's helping.

I can't stop living while I wait to get sick. I just try to go on and live normally, but always have a back up plan if I get an attack. I have noticed the grocery store makes me feel bad...but if I get my items quick and get out of there I do OK. My kids are angels and take care of me when I need help. I hate it, but I think they are becoming more compassionate people because of the situation...so I guess there's a silver lining?

I have been having problems for the last 3 1/2 years. I just got to go back to WDW last year. I didn't think I could ride anything fast but I threw caution to the wind and rode everything (except Mission Space and tea cups!) I didn't have an attack at Disney! So, you are not alone...I hope that helps and they figure out your issues soon.

just by reading your post, i can tell you are still confused. I have epilepsy. I feel the same way after i have mine. I have been by myself during one...One of the most recent ones, i had at home, and dd found me on the floor jerking when she came home from school. Why are you on seizure meds?? Is it b/c you have epilepsy?? I have had many seizures while on meds, they might have to adjust your meds, or find a different medication. Get some rest, (i know easier said than done.)

My nephew developed adult onset epilepsy, so I know that's possible. He was fine as a child and it pretty much developed out of thin air. It's also possible to have seizures even though you are on medication; some times it's trial-and-error to find the correct medication and dosage.

You also may have had a concussion from hitting your head. I hope the test results come back with something simple. Let us know what happens.

My DD has a seizure disorder, and her neuro is weaning her off the medication, which scares me because she will be going off to college in a couple of weeks.

You will probably go to a neurologist after your regular doctor visit.

I've had a couple seizures in my life. The first one was like 6 or 7 years ago. I was at work and I fell and hit my head. I was taken to the hospital and they checked me out and everything and told me I had a concussion and treated me and sent me home. That night I had a seizure while I was sleeping so I had to go back to the hospital and they gave me Dilantin and sent me home.

Fast forward to this past February. It was like 7:00 in the morning and I was sleeping and I had a tonic–clonic seizure that was witnessed by my sister and father. It was my father who called the paramedics, but I didn't go to the hospital that time. I went to the local clinic later that day and they told me they couldn't do anything but that I should see a neurologist. (I live in a rural area and the closest hospital is like an hour away.) They did look a my tongue though because I had bitten the sides of it during the seizure. Unfortunately, I haven't been to a neurologist yet because I don't have insurance or money for something like that.

The scariest part about the one in February was the fact that for probably the two days before it, I was getting really weird feelings of déjà vu and jamais vu. I know now that those are actually symptoms of a simple partial seizure, which often happen before a larger seizure.

I hope everything is okay though.

ok I am going to ask my dr about a stroke because my dd just told me she made me cry yesterday and she was sorry and I didn't even know I cried yesterday. My son says I was out cold with my eyes open for 30 mintures before the ambulence came. My poor kids. Please pray for them and me.

You should bring one of your children with you so they can tell the doctor how you are acting that's different. You might not be aware of it.

I also second seeing a neurologist.

Again thank you for the nice posts. They helped me and made me feel better. I am pretty sure they will have me follow up with a neurogist as well. I took a nap and feel less comfused now. I do feel however like doing alot of stuff and tying up loose ends in case I can't. I am curious though why people keep bringing up a stroke to me. My husband and son did that yesterday when they were trying to get me to go back to the hospital. I guess I dont have a clear idea what a stroke is.

Post-ictal confusion is a hallmark of a generalized seizure.

Her confusion and difficulty typing and memory loss are all typically seen after seizure, as are motor coordination problems and speech difficulties. And this can last for quite a long time. But they will get better.

I would not add something else for her to worry about.

And yes, most seizures can be easily controlled with medication. Please follow-up with your doctor.

Also, if they did not tell you, most states will require you to be seizure-free for at least 6 months before you can operate a car.

Definitely see a neurologist and have your medicine levels checked too. I currently take medication for seizures and have to be diligent about my levels. The last time I had a seizure (about 5 years ago), it took me a day to get feeling back to my normal self. Thankfully, I can always tell if one may happen and I am able to sit down. The worst seizure happened when I was a teenager and I was in waist deep water. Thankfully, there was a med student standing near me and was able to get me out of the water onto the shore.

Strokes that I have witnessed- the person is talking and not making any sense- they think they are but the words are coming out garbled up. (I think that is a specific kind of stroke though but were the 2 that I witnessed.)

Interesting...our twins had seizures the day after they were born. We discovered my thyroid was out of whack a few months later (TSH was 95) but was probably bad during the pregnancy. My hearing went at the same time and I am convinced they are all related but just not sure how (had every test under the sun at the Mayo Clinic). Possible that my thyroid cause this in the twins??

Yep my friends hearing went too. She started with the ringing and then lost the ability - but it came and went. Once they got it figured out she was better- but she still says she worries that it'll pop up again. Have they had any since then? Hoping not.
