Segway Tour - Weight Limit

I know there have been a few other posts on the subject, most notably this one.

But I'm hoping for a few new posts about people who are slightly over the 250 pound weight limit, going on the Around the World on a Segway tour. Have you taken this tour with someone over the weight limit? How much over was your group member? Were they weighed? Did their weight affect their experience?

And before the flames begin, I'm not advocating ignoring Disney's safety procautions. I'm just trying to gather info about this tour to see if this could be suitable for my friends on our upcoming trip. Thanks!

Hmm, my dad took the tour yesterday and I would imagine he's close...he didn't mention anything about it though. He had a GREAT time and highly recommends the tour. I wouldn't be surprised if he did it again.

It is not so much a safety precaution but has to do with the gyro's and I think recharging the unit.

I'd be interested in hearing some stories of people over 250 taking this tour also........I really want to do it but don't want the embarrassment
of weighing 5-10 lbs over 250!!!

When I took the tour, I noticed a scale with the equipment.

Everyone that day was most definitely under 250 pounds though, so it wasn't brought out.

For what its worth I weigh 250 in my underware. I took the tour this summer and had no problem what so ever. No one questioned me about my weight and no one asked to weigh me. It is a great tour and my DS and I had a great time.

an Epcot world showcase tour that takes place on scooter type vechiles that you stand on. Disney employees are often see cruising around on them in the parks. They (to me anyway) are very futuristic little contraptions. They stabalize themselves several hundred times a minute so that you don't topple over.

I have never been, but have one booked for december and can't wait.

The weight limit is Segway's, not Disney's. The i-Series Segway platform can accommodate a maximum of 250 lbs, and the 'basket' can hold 10 lbs. I'm not sure if that is a structural limitation or something that they have imposed to ensure that the battery performs to their stated specs.

I really worried about this when we did the Segway tour last year as I'm close to 250. I wasn't weighed, and the limit had more to do with how long the batteries would last according to the orientation information. I had a great time.

Don't give up - here's another reply ! DH, DS and I did the Segway tour in January for DSs 16th b'day and LOVED it !! DH assured me when I booked it that he would loose those ten or so lbs that put him over the weight limit with no problem - but that never really happened and nothing was said and no one in our tour group was weighed or even questioned about their weight. I'm sure they could and would check if they felt someone was not going to be safe on the segway. Did I mention how much fun we had ?!!! Enjoy !!

Disney is trying to keep the riders within the design specs of the scooter. If they put people on them that are over the specs, and there is a problem, the liability falls on Disney.

Hi!

I took the Segway Tour last December and weighed in about 10 pounds over the Disney limit. No problem at all, no one questioned or weighed me, etc. The tour was WONDERFUL and lots of fun! We're doing it again this January, although I hope to be down to my "Seg-weight" by then.

I would imagine that the only time they might whip out the scale is if you looked like youwere seriously (100pds) over the 250 limit...
