I am just curious what other dvc/dis'ers opinions are who have done the Segway Tours - Epcot Tour and Wilderness Trail. I have done the Epcot Tour and am debating to do the Wilderness Back Trail Adventure or not.

...and if anyone were willing to describe the tours itinerary, that would be greatly appreciated.

We've done the Epcot tour three times and thoroughly enjoyed it every time and plan to do it again. It is such a great place to ride a Segway, zigzagging your way through all the countries in the WS! But I was also curious about the FW tour so I asked this same question in a previous discussion on the two Segway tours. The people who responded who had done both tours thought the FW one was even better than the Epcot tour so we plan to try the FW tour next time.

We've done both and while I enjoyed the Epcot one I thought the Fort Wilderness one was better. You start by Mickey's BBQ for instruction which takes about 1/2 hour. You then travel over into one of the camping loops. From there you go off road and over by the lake. Here you stop and can have your picture taken. Then it is back on the path into the main area of Ft. Wilderness. From there you go over to the horse barn for a short break and a chance to visit with the horses. After that you take what i think is the jogging track all the way over to Wilderness lodge, this part is on a paved path. On the way back you again go off road heading back to Mickey's BBQ. The riding part is 1 1/2 hours long and we had a great time.

If you book it head on over to Ft. Wilderness early for breakfast at Trails End. It is a great buffet!

One of the best mornings we've ever spent in WDW!

Edited to add a picture of us on tour.

DH and I have done the Epcot tour many times and tried the FW tour for the first time last October. We enjoy the Epcot tour more, but that may be due to our not being "wilderness" types. We go to WDW twice each year and still take the Epcot tour each trip. DH commented that he wouldn't mind doing the FW tour every other year or so for a change of pace, but, "once you've seen the first couple of hundred trees, you don't need to see any more." :rotfl:

Seriously, though, there were many nice spots of interest along the FW tour, including the stables and decorated campsites. We just prefer the atmosphere during the early morning Epcot tour around World Showcase before it opens.

We've done the Epcot tour twice and the DCA tour once, our family loves them. I look forward to doing the Wilderness one on our next trip to WDW in 2009.

We have done both. Liked both, but LOVED the Wilderness Trail one best! You have a lot more freedom out on the rough trail than you do going around World Showcase.

Are segways pretty easy to operate? The Fort Wilderness tour has caught my eye.

We did the Epcot tour this past December, and we LOVED it. We plan to do the Wilderness Segway tour, but we're not quite sure when just yet. It's on our must-do list though.

I love this thread! We're doing Epcot's Segway next month and I admit I'm a bit scared but I'll get over that. I hope to do the FW version in the future, maybe October.

The segways are SUPER easy to do. If you can stand up and shift your weight from one foot to the other, you can ride a Segway.

Have done both, and I think I like the Ft W one better, but that's because it triggers a lot of memories from when our kids were little and we camped at Ft. Wilderness. Our first trip to WDW in 88 was in the old Fleetwood trailers. It's funny even tho the kids have stayed at all level of resorts and in the last 4 years DVC, the Fort is what they call "home."

I second this! I was nervous at first, too, and was especially afraid of the few small downhill parts of the tour. DH convinced me to trust the Segway...if you trust it, and keep track of your "rider box" so you don't drive over a curb, it won't let you fall! We just love the tour and do it every trip. And, the guides are great...they helped put me at ease that first time.

I am not at all athletic or well coordinated so I am proof that just about anyone can learn to use a Segway! The first 10 minutes I was nervous and it turns out that is the worst thing you can be on a Segway. The Segway responds to your movements so if you are a little shaky, the Segway will be too! You need to just take a deep breath and relax.

The Segway always wants to stay underneath you. If you want to go forward all you have to do is lean forward a bit. (You don't move your feet -- you just lean forward a bit.) The Segway detects that your weight is shifting and it rolls forward to stay under you. As you continue to lean forward a bit, it continues to roll forward. If you want to slow down you shift your weight back a bit (by straightening up a bit) and the Segway slows down. If you want to stop, you need to have your weight centered over your feet and the Segway stops. Standing still like that is what takes the most practice -- you will realize as you are trying to master this that you rarely stand completely still! Most of us are always shifting our weight forward and back a little bit. The Segway will move forward and back in response until you learn to stand still.

It will take you about 10-15 minutes to get over your nerves and another 15 minutes to get pretty comfortable and then you will be rolling around on your Segway like a pro with a huge grin on your face!

DH & I would like to do the Wilderness Tour now that we have done the Epcot tour twice. It would be interesting to see the differences in the Segways.

Now that I've read some of these reviews, I'm even more interested in trying it out.
