We just found out that DW is pregnant! Our first! Y'all here are the only ones that know so far. Now, I have a million and one questions, but here's the first one.

We have Segway reservations for Oct 7th. DW will be 7 weeks at that time. This is one part about our trip that she was really looking forward to. She's in great health, not overweight and 40 yrs old. Don't tell her, I mentioned her age.

For those that have done Segway, what do you think? Should we cancel or should we still go. I know Disney says no to preganant women.

Thanks!

Congrats to you and your DW!!!

I would have her call and talk to her ob/gyn to ask what their advice is. They may ok it, but if not, you have an excuse to plan another trip!!

Have a wonderful trip!!

One man in my group fell off his Segway during the tour, but he didn't hurt
himself. I know that I would not take that chance if I were pregnant,
especially in the first trimester.

Would you want to take the chance of a fall somehow causing DW to miscarry? That would scare me.

Just my .02.

Congrats!
I personally would not risk it as I have heard of several people falling while using a Segway. I may be a bit overly cautious, though, and different people will have different opinions on this. I think the idea for her to ask her dr is a good one.
Falling while pg is not necessarily a recipe for disaster (the baby is very protected) but it would definitely ruin my day because I'd worry.

I AM against her riding Segway. I don't think anythng is worth the risk. She's the one that wants to ride, but thankfully she's a little hesitant. I don't want to ride without her, but that might be one big reason that she wants to go. I'm sure the fall factor is the only reason that it's unsafe. Now that it has been mentioned that peopel have fallen off, that could be a good enough reason for her not to ride.

Thanks everyone!

Okay, now how much do diapers cost?

Some restrictions apply: Minimum age is 16 (guardian must sign a waiver for ages 16 and 17), maximum weight for participants is 250 pounds, and expectant mothers and persons with special needs may not participate due to safety concerns.

I would cancel. It's too big a risk even though she might be perfectly fine.

When we did the Segway Tour in April, a lady in our group got to close to a wall going through a pathway. She bumped the wall and handlebars of the segway bounced into her stomach and knocked the wind out of her. They had to call first aiders and she did not continue the tour. I would not take the chance. IMHO

PS. Congratulations!!!

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!! :flower:
There are several other great tours to choose from. I really liked the Hidden Future World tour and the Keys To The Kingdom tour.

Check out the info here...

Don't tell her but, Around The World On A Segway ROCKS!
Maybe you can do it after the baby is born, something else to look forward to!

Congratulations! My wife just had our first last year at 39, the nurses at the OB kept commenting on her age but she was the only one around her time out of all the younger ladies to have no pain meds during the 30+ hours of induction. She never even made a sound so the age factor I know isn't that big a deal.

To get back on track- you can't figure in just your wife falling off, but also what everyone else does. Someone might run into her also. It probably would be ok, but why risk it. Now for some of the logic I use on my patients that don't want to stay off an injury; the tour is listed at 2 hrs so out of a 40 week pregnancy she has to be extra good for approximately 3/10,000 ths of the pregnancy or even more extreme , give up this tour this time that represents maybe 2.8/1,000,000 ths of her lifetime of experiences to be extra careful for the little one and the experiences you can have with them.

Anyone remember this?

Yup that's President Bush falling off a Segway.

I am pregnant, and I do not like being told what I can and can't do (I have a fierce independent streak). That being said, and having done the tour, I don't think your wife should do it. I was pretty good at riding my segway (young, good health, coordinated) and going down a small hill I lost control of mine and popped off of it. With more than 40 minutes practice, that probably wouldn't have happened, but I wouldn't risk it pregnant. Not only do you have to worry about yourself, but everyone around you as well as driving through people (on the way to world showcase). Another thing to consider is the length of the tour. My legs were a bit tight and sore from staying in one position for that long. Ultimately though, I think the decision should be your made by your wife.
