So we tried this option while we were at BCV. We were there for 11 nights (just checked out yesterday). We had segmented reservations to start with as we had booked the weekends on BCV points for SWW and the middle at VWL then switched at 7mos. This was the first time that it had ever been left as segments before in the first place.
So we added 1 night of the regular DP and 1 night of the deluxe DP to the middle section and 1 night of the deluxe DP on the 3rd segment.
Let me just say that of the meals we had: Cape May on the regular + Yakatori House/Flame Tree, Artist Point, 'Ohaha, Chefs de France and Flying Fish - we got an excellent value for our money. Crazy value - especially when you factor in snacks and mugs.
Now for the insanity aspect of it. First off I don't know how people eat that much food. We really did get 8 mugs - which just seems silly. We ended up with 24 different room keys by the end of our stay due to the checkin/checkout process. It was pretty ridiculous. Only once did the keys not have our credits on them where we had to pay OOP and be refunded, but still the amount of time going to the front desk was uncool. They had slid a couple of sets under our door at somepoint, but it was hard to keep up.
Fortunately we aren't park commandos at all and it wasn't a big deal to go down to the lobby so much, but if they are going to do this they need to streamline it. Put the dining on a separate system/card and make it irrelevant what the dates are - its prepaid, as long as it expires at the end it shouldn't matter what days its used.
So all in all we will use this option - as there are some places that we really like still and it actually is a value to do this way. Honestly I don't see how it will ever be easier until the separate the systems, but still for us it was an excellent value.
