Segmented Dining Plan confusion

I have a reservation at the BCV from Sat 9/24-Sun 10/2.
I have no dining plan right now, but would like to get the regular DDP for Sun 9/25-Fri 9/30, dropping the first and last nights.

I thought I could just call and have this added to my reservation, but am I reading correctly that they have to cancel and rebook your room?

If that's the case, I'm hesitant to do it because I wouldn't want to chance losing my reservation.

Call MS and find out from them. I segmented a reservation for our stay 2 weeks ago and I was never told that there could be an issue. MS just did it, 3 segments, no DDP 1 night, DXDP nights 2&3, no DDP for the rest of the nights.
