when compared to the other topics here, but I have a question about special cleanings. Long story short...I have skin allergies that I don't know what causes them until I break out. It used to be worse, but over the last year and a half, I have been able to go and stay at hotels and use their sheets and towels. Until...I went to stay at the CR Nov/Dec 2009. I blistered further up my arms than normal. I'm guessing that it was either the sheets or towels or both. Can a person request the sheets/towels be rewashed with no scent/no color detergent? If so, will they replace the towels every day with towels washed the same way? I have a steroid cream that I use when I break out, but I don't really like to use that much of it. Plus, it might take several tubes over the course of a vacation. Thank you for your help!

If you follow the link in my signature to the disABILITIES FAQs thread, post #1 has an index to what the different posts in that thread are about. Post #7 of that thread is about resorts and includes the phone number of WDW Special Reservations. They should be able to help you with your question.

I don't think it is trivial. You can ask for the sheets and towels to be double rinsed and have no chemicals used. They will also replace the towels with the no chemical towels. Call the special needs line Sue mentioned and have it noted on your reservation. It does not hurt to verify at check in that the request has been fulfilled.

My son has asthma, and it tends to flare up when we travel. Florida can be hot and humid, and he's had some bad times during hot months there. Our Disney cruise was really awful for his lungs; the wheezing started early on, and I didn't have a portable nebulizer, just his inhalers (lesson learned - we now travel with a nice portable). He ended up getting an infection, high fever, needed breathing treatments, antibiotics and steroids towards the end of the trip (the nurses and doctors onboard were wonderful).

A year ago, when we went to the Boardwalk, I requested a VIP cleaning of the room. The room was cleaned really extra well, the carpets cleaned I think, the bedding changed (new comforters), air conditioner filters changed, and it was so clean! It did take them a while, so our room wasn't ready until later in the afternoon, but what a difference! He didn't wheeze much at all that trip, so I think that this may be a help for you. You can definitely call to ask about the extra rinsing of the sheets and no fragrance for the detergents I would think. The clean comforters also probably help a lot.

I wish you luck. I also agree; if it flares up your skin, it isn't trivial at all! Rashes can get bad, and if it the skin gets broken, you can risk infection (my neighbor's daughter has bad eczema and has had infections from it).

Thank you all for your support! I called the number in the FAQ section that SueM suggested. The very nice lady at the other end of the line told me exactly how to have my TA word the request. I feel much better (and probably less itchy!).
