The kids & I will be checking in to SSR (studio) next week, along with some friends we sold points to who are not DVC members and have never stayed at a DVC resort. This will be our first time staying at SSR.

Since we have not stayed there before, I am a little intimidated by the process. I am very familiar with the process of all other DVC resorts (i.e., Drive to room vicinity for parking @ OKW, walk to room at all others, use Bell Services usually @ BWV, valet park @ BWV, BCV, & VWL, location of the pools, bus stops, dining locations, etc...).

Are the different buildings clearly marked so I don't end up driving in circles? Is there a particular building I should request? (Would like close proximity to the walkway to DTD but also to the pool. Pool takes precedence over walkway to DTD, I suppose.)

I suppose part of my nervousness is that I really want our friends to be impressed. We go on and on and on about how AWESOME DVC is. I want them to see that we aren't just blowing smoke.

Any information on the check-in, room locating, resort navigating processes will be greatly appreciated!

Relax and enjoy. Resort marked very good. At check-in be sure to get the resort map. You will drive to the front of your building. Elevator in all buildings.

We stayed in the building next to Market place. A short walk to market. We are going in three weeks and we will let resort assign room. Looking forward to a new building.

The buildings are identified by the section name. For example, Congress Park and the Springs are both open now. Congress Park is located at the back of the resort across the lake from DTD. The Springs is located directly across from the main pool and Carriage House. Congress Park has four buildings open and the Springs had three.

The villa numbers are located on the buildings, so you have to look at those signs carefully when you are trying to find your villa. The CM who checks you in will give you a map with your building circled on it if the room is ready when you check in. Otherwise, head back to the Carriage House when your room is ready to get directions. The first two digits of the room number are not a building number like at OKW. But the second number should tell you what floor you are on.

The elevators for each building are located in the middle of the building. But there are stairwells at each end of the building, plus in the middle.

Bus stops are located centrally to both areas. Plus there is an initial temporary stop for the Carriage house right across the street from the Springs stop.

The pool at Congress Park is very nice, just no slide. We have stayed in Congress Park twice so far and it was very nice.

If you are in a studio, the laundry room near the main pool is the biggest with four washers and eight dryers. The one near the Congress Park pool had two washers and four dryers.

SSR is a beautiful resort and will be very nice when all the construction is finished. But the ongoing construction shouldn't impact your vacation at all. Didn't bother us in the least.

I see your post talks about driving to your villa. How do you get to your villa with your luggage if you have not driven but used Magical Express? Do you have to walk it?

No you don't have to walk to your villa if you don't have a car. Bell services is at the front of the Carriage House (check in) and they have golfcarts to carry you and your luggage to your villa. You should see the Bellman standing there.

Thanks! That's good to know.

And if there's no one right there at the time you arrive just go to the front desk. I would leave your bags at the curb :).

Don't worry, it's beautiful! Make certain you ask where your rooms are, the map tells half the story. It's a very odd numbering sceme. Ours was 1603, that was on the 2nd floor! I think you said you didn't have a car, so they would bring you anyway.
