We are planning a trip to DL in April and would also like to go see the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Is there an easy way to get to the studio from the hotel? We are not planning on renting a car. I really do not want to drive in LA traffic.

TIA

I did a taping of the tonight show at the end of my Sept. Vacation. I can't help you on the transportation front because I rented a car for a few days during my trip. The taping was fun but expect a lot of waiting around. I would plan on arriving at least 30 min. prior to the time listed on your ticket. People show up early for the taping and your ticket doesn't guarantee you a seat. Parking is extremely limited around the studio so you may need to hunt for a parking spot. They load people in batches of 40-50 at a time and they tell you where to sit. The actual taping itself lasts about an hour and was really fun. The show is recorded "live on tape". Everything is done in from start to finish in real time. The Tonight show band plays during the commercials while they are changing the set (if needed).

I hope someone else can help you with transportation issues.

You could take Amtrak from the Anaheim station to the Burbank station, and a 4 mile taxi ride from there to NBC Studios. As for the return trip, the current schedule shows BUR departures at 6:37pm and 9:13pm. I think the Tonight Show tapes about 4:30pm so you might be able to make the 6:37pm return.

Of course renting a car for the day gives you more flexibility. You could visit Universal Citywalk before or after the show, drive by the Disney Studios, maybe Griffith Park and the Planetarium. Maybe even a Dodger game. Driving up there would mostly be on the I-5, cutting west on the 134 Ventura Freeway just past Griffith Park.

I got my tickets through http://www.tvtix.com . On that site, you could put in the days you are visiting and it will show you what is expected to be taping that day. When I first visited tickets weren't available yet for the day I wanted, but I could give them my e-mail to be notified when the tickets were available.
