Seeing the Ocean

Hello all, I've been learning a lot here! It's somewhat overwhelming!

We are planning a trip in late April, most likely staying at one of the All Star Resorts.

During our trip though, we'd like to be able to take a day or two and see the ocean.

I've been to Tampa, but I'd like to go to the Atlantic side of the state this time. Not the gulf side.

What is the closest and or best beach? How far from Disney?
We aren't renting a car for our trip, so we would have to get one for a day or two toward the end of the trip. Is there anywhere close by to do that at Disney?

Daytona is the closest BIG name beach city,but the nearest one is probably Coco Beach. It is about an hour away using the beeline expressway. There are many small beach areas, Cape Canaveral Space museum (Maybe even a Space shuttle liftoff), and nearby is Port Canaveral which is where the disney cruiseline departs. There is lots to see and due in that area. For rental cars National has sites located in and around DW....TAZ

Just to clarify, the "Beeline" is now the Beachline. It's Route 528 (a tollroad) that will take you right to Port Canaveral and then into Coca Beach.

There is a nice (free) public beach there with parking. If you travel south on A1A for just a bit (the road splits) there will be a little place, Mainly Lobster on the right side of the road. If you like lobster, crab, clams, shellfish, STOP THERE! It's fresh and directly brought in from Rockland, Maine. Prices for Florida are very good too. They will cook it to go if you like (nothing like having lobsters on the beach) or you can eat it there.

It's not fancy! But it sure is the best lobster in Florida. :yes:

FYI - if your trying to do a search I believe it's spelled Cocoa Beach. We spent 3 nights in a condo right on the beach there last April. The condo was only $85 a night. We rented from VRBO. You can rent a car at two different locations right on disney property.
