My husband (who is new to pin trading) just bought some pins from e-bay that are stamped with sedesma on them. Are these pins ok to trade with in the parks? Thank you for all your help!
I'm a relative newbie to pin trading and I've only got a very small collection so by all means if one of you veterans has a correction feel free. I am under the impression that Sedesma pins are legal tradeable Disney pins but are of lesser quality. A more veteran trader would have to tell you whether private parties will trade for them or not. My suspicion is not, or if they do, they will of course offer not much in return for them (say another Sedesma) People tend to buy them on the cheap in big lots and then take them to the parks for the kids to trade with CM's.
From a guide written by an ebayer.
Then there are the infamous Sedesma pins. These are sold throughout Spain...you can find them everywhere, including grocery stores. Disney bounces back and forth in regards to Sedemsa. Some Cast Members will take them in trade; other times they won't. Quite simply, Sedesma pins are cheap. They are badly made and shunned by most pin collectors. Yet, they sell on eBay all them time in bulk. Although Disney says nothing specific about Sedesma in their official pin trading "rules" (see below), whether you can trade them in the parks or not is a gamble.
People who are much more veteran than I have said that Disney changes its mind on these pins - sometimes they're tradeable, sometimes not.
While DD has actually traded CMs FOR a few of them, I don't bring them for trade - I just feel more comfortable bringing 'real' pins. Plus, as the Ebayer said, it's a gamble.... you could lay out money for a bunch of them, then have Disney decide to stop accepting them before you trade them. If you look around, you can find excellent deals on 'real' pins.
Besides e-bay where else can I buy "real" pins to trade before I get to the park? Please help! I would love to have alot of pins to trade with. Is it true that the outlet malls in Orlando have pins at a cheeper price?

Hi! I have been an avid pin trader since 2001. The comments above about Sedesma pins are totally accurate. Disneyland goes back and forth on their rules. Sometimes they say that the pins legally tradeable have to be cloisonne, and that rules out Sedesma and Propins. Sometimes, they accept them. Mostly depends upon the cast member that you are trading with.
One person suggested buying pins at mousepinsonline. I just looked at the site, for I want inexpensive quality pins to trade at the parks also, and did not know about it. Mousepins sells many Propins, which are a type of enamel pin made in Europe. They are nice. However, sometimes cast members at the Parks do not accept these either. I like the designs of both Propins and Sedesma, and have many of their pins in my collection. However, if you want them explicitly for trading with cast member lanyards, then you might be taking a chance. If you want to trade them with other pin collectors, just be aware that veteran collectors mostly scoff at Propins as they do to Sedesma.
Have fun pin trading!! Most pin traders are very nice and helpful.

We went to the Disney outlet at Premium Outlets last month and the few pins they had were NOT any sort of bargain. You'd do much better purchasing a set on www.disneyshopping.com when they have the additional 20% off (like almost all the time) and free shipping. Back in August we got a bunch of sets that came down to approximately $3.50 a pin as well as bunch of Incredibles pins that they had in the outlet section of the site for around $2.00 each.
We had no problems trading any of the pins we bought from the site, feeling completely comfortable doing it as opposed to the Ebay pins we bought (and sent back to the seller since they were of such poor quality--could never have asked DS to trade something I wasn't sure was real).
Personally, I am tired of trying to trade pins with CMs and they only have those darn propins (from mousepinsonline) on their lanyards. Sure I suppose it's best for you to purchase them cheaply and then trade them for the more expensive pins but what about the people that are walking behind you that want to trade with that same CM. Don't you think they would like to trade for an authentic Disney pin and not the cheap propins? It would be nice if everyone who purchased those cheap propins would only trade for propins but that isn't gonna happen.
Noone understands this contemplation more than I. My family live in FL and scrape up enough for season passes so we can take a few 2-4 day trips to WDW a year-which I can't really afford anyway and are the only vacations we usually take. My DS and DH are not just traders but COLLECTORS they have a hard time letting go of the pins they get and can easily go through 10 pins by the time we've left the park. I cannot afford this but feel like I am ruining their fun (and pin trading was MY idea) if I say "that's it" So I always want to find them as cheaply as possible outside of the parks. I am afraid of e-bay, ever. and afraid of pin sharks as I am not exactly in "the know" I have too much on my mind running my life to know what this pin or that pin is worth- I trade for ones I like-period. I never trade more than 1 pin for 1 pin EVER (I wouldn't know if someone was lying). But I agree that I do not want to be responsible for hard working people like myself buying disney pins for disney dollars and having their kids trade them in an unfair trade. I think that stinks. I will just keep scouring the legitimate sites for good deals.
thanks for this thread-it made up my mind about some e-bay pin lots I was leary of to begin with (regarless of said sellers pos. reviews)
