What do you do with your wallet and any cash you may have in your pockets when going through the security line at the airport? Do you send it through the scanner or will they let you walk through holding it?

You should not enter the magnetometer or millimeter wave body scanner with metal objects.

The easiest thing is to put your coins, wallet, cell phone, and anything else with metal in an outside zippered pocket in your carry-on bag or personal item before sending them down the conveyor belt.

Or you can also put such items in a bin, but some passengers don't like having their your money and wallet "exposed" to other people in the area.

My husband puts his in his carry on. Why would you send an unattended wallet through a security belt where anyone at the end could claim it and you would not know it. That just screams "here steal me"

I make sure I don't have any loose change or bills in my pocket. Wallets and/or purses go into the bin.

This never even crossed my mind. It makes perfect sense. Great idea! Thanks!

My husband puts his in the bin with his other stuff. We usually get out of scanning before the bins come down so there's never a problem.

I know I put coins in the bin. I think I've left my wallet in my pocket, but am not sure.

I do keep my watch on. Sometimes I put my belt in the bin, sometimes I leave it on.

They had dh carry his wallet through last time we flew. Usually I shove everything in a carry one before we get to the front. Just makes it all easier

Like others have said, it all goes into a pocket in my carry-on bag. I used to do the same with my phone but with mobile boarding passes, it stays out and the security person places it into my bin when they're done with it. :)

Like others my stuff goes in an outside pocket of my carry on. On the rare occasions that I don't have a carry one I stuff everything in my shoes so its not out on display.

Also a suggestion, while you are standing in line in security is a great time to be stowing all your stuff in your bag, rather than waiting til you get to the machine. This will keep the lines moving faster. All you need out is your boarding pass and ID, so now all you have are 2 items to put in your bag.

FWIW you can think you have a plan and think "it's always been this way so it'll continue to be this way", and then TSA messes you up. We were going through security, they pulled DH out for extra special treatment. Because we were altogether and they FIRST couldn't figure out which one they wanted, our bags all went through before we had gone through. And we were going through over to the left, even though our stuff had gone through on the right. (we went where they told us to go, not going to argue) I finally got through with DS and started the mad process of putting it all back together. No matter how experienced you are, when you have three pairs of shoes, 3 jackets, 3 311 baggies (true confession, mainly my stuff in all 3), 2 backpacks and a purse, one laptop, and 3 carryons...it takes up some room on the belt. And it had all been sitting there while they figured out who they wanted to pat down. Unattended. Woohoo.
