Security gate question

I would like to check out the Dolphin resort this year while we're in Orlando, but I remember last year when we stayed at POR there being a security gate to pass through. Is there one at all resorts and how can you get through it for instance if you wanted to see a resort or have dinner there.

We've visited most of the resorts. We never have a problem as long as we have the paper that shows we are staying at one of the Disney resorts on our dashboard. We just tell the guard that we have dinner reservations. Sometimes, we just go to DD or TTC and get on a bus to whatever hotel we wish to visit. It's never been a problem.

We are staying off-site this year and will have a car. Will we be allowed without proof of staying at a Disney resort?

If you tell them that you are going to the resort to have dinner, they ask you to show a photo ID. That's all they did for us. We were staying at the Hilton in DD, and we ate dinner once at the Contemporary and once at POR, we drove to both places (although we could have easily taken the busses from DD).

Why bother driving over?

If you happen to be at MGM or Epcot, simply walk over, or take the Friendship boat!

We stayed at POR in Feb and had no problem driving to the different resorts to look around. We had our POR parking permit and our room key card.We were let thru to each resort by just asking if we could just look around. We had asked at POR front desk if we could do this and they told us it would not be a problem.Good luck and enjoy. We also went to AKL at 5:30 just as they were feeding the animals,it was very easy to see them and made the experience great.

Just have a picture ID with you at all times. We've been there for 2 trips since 9/11 and you HAVE to show a picture ID whenever you drive through security to go to the resorts. EVEN the resort you're staying at (even though you have a parking permit). The line for the All Stars gets pretty long after the parks close. Just have that ID ready.

We took friends to several resorts to "take a look around". We simply told the security person that we would like to get some resort information. Showed ID and were let through without any problems.

Was visiting Universal 2 weekends ago and decided to have dinner at Riverside (we missed the "taste" of the food court, we wanted to see how crowded the resort was and we missed the resort!). I had my picture ID ready to show the guard, put a smile on my face and told him we were stopping by for dinner. He told us to have a good time! :)
