Security at your place of work

i work in an office building that has federal government offices here as well, so security has always been tight, even before 9/11. you need a card to get into the building, otherwise you are stopped at the desk. you need a key for the bathrooms. you need a card to get into our office space. i had my wallet stolen out of my office desk drawer so i also keep my office door locked now. some rooms are keypad protected and i don't have access to them.

Everyone else works in these secure locations, and I work in a mall. I'm really different.

One thing about working in a mall-- when you go shopping, you tend to avoid the mall.

Our mall security is pretty good, but we have a lot of problems with fights and shoplifting. Even though we have a sensor gate, we still have a lot of problems with theft. Determined shoplifters know all the tricks and know how to beat the system.

We've discovered that the best deterrent agains shoplifting is simply good customer service. If you greet every customer, offer assistance, and circulate the sales floor, you'll spook potential shoplifters because they know you've "seen" them.

We have to use our badges to get into the employee entrance and also to "swipe" in....... although it's not really a "swipe", we just put the card in front of a sensor and that goes to the computer for our computerized time card system.

A couple of months ago, they told us we were getting TB tests, but I think what they REALLY did was implant a micro-chip in our forearms in order to be able to track us.

yup...I work in biotech so there are lab, manufacturing, computer, and document areas that have extremely limited access. Sometimes entire wings of buildings are off-limites to general employees.

I work at the county Courthouse. We have a key card to get in the door or to get in the employee door if you enter the courthouse through public access areas. You can also get buzzed back to our office by the ditzy girls that work the front counter. If we have a major big trial going on, they will put metal detectors in front of that courtroom, but other than that, no major security.
