Security at MCO today

We flew out on Air Tran on Sunday night and had no trouble with the time factor. It was under ten minutes.

But I had trouble with the man running the xray machine. I had film with 800 ASA film and I had been advised to have it hand checked. Leaving from Charlotte was no problem and they did not xray it but hand checked it. At MCO I had in in my hand, separate from my carry ons and I asked politely for a hand check. The person standing there took the film and asked me to move through the arch. As I started throught the body arch thing they asked me to remove my Crocs! Another first. No security has had a problem with them before. I took them off and went barefoot through the arch. When I got to the other side I reached for my carry ons and here comes my film through the xray machine! I must have raised my voice and exclaimed my dismay! The man behind the machine said something to the effect of "Oh well! Took late now so you might as well quite crying over it!" Needless to say I was ticked and repeated that I had asked for a hand check and that I had said I did not want the film to be xrayed! The man just chuckled at me!

It will be interesting when I develop it to see it the xrays have ruined the film!

Your film will probably be fine. I used to travel with 800 speed and it was routinely xrayed. Never had an issue. (International airports view it as an insult if you ask for a hand check.. not worth the hassle factor)

However, you did get to experience the other side of the TSA. You are probably NOT much safer now but you get a LOT more harrassment.... IDIOTS!!!

I am sitting at the gate here at MCO now. Security lines were not as long as usual this Friday morning. They were long but nowhere near as long as I have seen them.

TV is warning everyone it is going to be a very busy day at the airport.

File a complaint.

Next time (copied from another post) use those lead lined bags that camera stores sell. If thes ign is truthful about the carry on x-rays being safe for under 800 speed film then they cannot crank up the x-rays far enough to see through the lead bag and by the time they choose to inspect it more closely the inspection will be on the far side the the machine and be manual.

We flew out yesterday. Got to MCO at 3pm. Waited 5 minutes for security on the A side. :thumbsup2

If you go this route buy from a reputable dealer. I had a friend who bought one of these and when she asked the TSA agent why he didn't hand inspect it (since it was suppose to show as a black blob), he said he could see everything. He then told her how many rolls of film she had in her "lead bag" Her DH took it apart when she got home and it had something like black plastic in it and NOTHING that was lead....

It was much better tonight. My parents went through security at 6:30pm with no line, side A, flying Southwest.
