Securing an SD on the bus?

I take the bus to school, and some of the drivers drive like maniacs. Yesterday the driver "didn't see" the light was yellow and then red and hit the break so hard that Nala (my service dog) went skidding under the seats and into the girls three seats ahead of me. The girls picked her up and brought her back to me (they're nice and love Nala hehe).
This isn't the first time that they've done this (I'm not sure many drivers know how to break properly). I was thinking about getting a car harness and strapping her into a seat.
It's not a good idea, but neither is having her go flying because the leash slips from my hand when they break super hard.
I don't really know what to do about keeping her safe and in one place on the bus.

my friend who is deaf blind doesn't secure her service dog on the bus. Lady just lays at her feet. If you are using a wheelchair maybe you could loop the leash around the wheelchair. At lot depends on your abilities and what is available to secure the dog to and the dog's size

I think letting the bus company know about these drivers might help some too. Drivers like that should not be driving a bus, they are not only a hazard to those on the bus but also those around the bus. They need to look for a different job ASAP.

I second that!!

I don't travel buses often, but don't secure my SD in them. She is bigger than yours, though, and doesn't fit underneath the seat so can't go sliding under them.

Have you thought about using a mat for your SD to lay on? Find a mat that has a rubber or tacky underside or use a spray for rugs that makes them stick to the floor.

Also, keeping your SD between your legs (or behind them) is a good idea.

I can't imagine they'd allow your SD to be in a seat on the bus as SD's are expected to lay on the floor. I agree that a solution will depend on your ability to secure the dog by looping a leash, etc. I keep mine on her leash which is attached to my w/c and that works pretty well.---Kathy
