Secrets to renting the cheapest car(actually van)

Have you found one company to be cheaper/better than another? Booking thry the company site or thru one of those companies like Expedia? What about those coupons in the coupon books (that schools sell) are they ever a good deal?

I simply got to FatWallet.com and do a search for car rentals. They always list various coupon codes that work great.

I sometimes look at the Transportation board here....the deals that they list can sometimes be used elsewhere. I also check the codes at mousesavers.com, again those codes can be used elsewhere. There is a website for car rental codes that is decent but I don't remember which one it is.
