Secret verandah rooms

Are rooms 7131 and 7631 which are category 11, bigger than other category 11 rooms. I noticed they are listed on the ship map as handicapped rooms. Can anyone reserve those rooms and what is a secret verandah room? Thanks.

Anyone who is handicapped can reserve these rooms. There is a form you get if you are traveling with a handicapped person and you and the Dr both fill it out confirming that the person you are traveling with needs a handicapped room, then you can get it.

We were assigned handicap rooms on the 2/29/04 cruise. When we rebooked, we asked if we could get them again if they weren't in use. They said absolutely, if no one needed them.

W-A-Y larger than std cat 11 room. I felt kind of guilty that we were assigned such large cabins when my sister got a reg. cabin!

I have photos and an explanation of the secret verandah rooms on my website. Basically, you pay a Cat. 7 price for a Cat. 6 stateroom because of a slight obstruction.

To the above poster: You say the rooms are way larger than a standard category 11 room. What room # were you in? How much bigger are they does anyone know? On our last cruise, we had a category 10 (deluxe inside stateroom, which is 214 sq ft.). category 11 is stated as being 184 sf. Does anyone know the actual size of the handicapped rooms?

We were in 6147 & 6647. This was our first cruise so I can't compare it to a std cat 11 except that we were in my sister's room (5501) and her room seemed like a walk in closet compared to ours which seemed like a normal hotel room! We were shocked at the difference. Of course, her cabin was wall to wall people at the time we were in it (all 10 of us either in the cabin or the hall!) We had all 10 in our cabin and never felt crowded!

I tried to get more info before our cruise, such as the actual size of our cabins but I never found it anywhere. And we only have one picture of our cabin....I really regret not taking more photos of the cabins & the ship!

Now I'm afraid we're going to be disappointed next year in a reg. cabin. But we did get one secret porthole room so I'm hoping that makes up for the room!!!

So...if you ever get assigned a handicap room, it's as good as an upgrade in our opinion!

We had a handicap room when we cruised last time and it was really big, the verandah is also WAY bigger than a regular room, we had 2 lounge chairs, 3 chairs and a table on ours! The only thing I didn't like so much was we were right next to the secret deck 7 and one day we had someone hanging over that deck and looking into our room...how rude!

1. There is no such thing as a secret verandah room....Secret porthole rooms, yes, verandahs, no.

2. Also, you obviously have not heard the tales of the handi-cabin avenger..... on a par with the one who haunts people who purposefully park in handicapped parking spaces without being similarly qualified....

I think some people call the rooms Barb referred (7120 and 7620 and 6134 and 6634) to as "secret verandah rooms" since they have a catagory 5/6 verandah (obstructed) with a catagory 7 listing. Guess it rhymes with "secret porthole"

I would assume this means that she is handicapped or was traveling with someone who was. Your comment of "Hmmmm, tit for tat?" is therefore inappropriate.

The person who takes revenge on people who park in handicapped parking spaces is called a police officer since that is a violation of the law as well as etiquette. However, if the room is going to be empty, I don't see the harm in someone else using it. Should it sit empty if there are more handicapped-accessible rooms than handicapped people on board?

If Disney assigns you the room when no one else is in it then why is it a violation???? Obviously they arent going to give the room away if someone really needed it and I dont think it's inappropriate at all for someone who isnt handicapped to use it IF it isnt needed WHICH I would doubt Disney would do to anyone who needed it!

Sheesh....now people are getting blamed for a Disney "upgrade" or the fact that if the room isnt being used that they would like it. What's next?

Quiet, people!!!! Just go along with videogal and say that there are NO secret verandah rooms, and while you're at it, say the same thing about the secret porthole rooms. If we can convince enough people that it's true (or would that be not true?), they won't be so darned hard to get.
Those photos on my website of the secret verandahs are really just retouched in Photoshop. Really, they are...really, really!

Actually when we booked I had booked me, my mom, my 2 year old and my 14 year old godson who was in a wheelchair due to cancer/brain tumors. He died one month before the cruise. I called and had him taken off the reservation and let Disney know that we no longer needed a handicap room but they chose to keep us in there since no one else was looking for one.
