Secret slaughter of the the dolphins.

I completely agree, and I have swam with the dolphins last year makes you rethink...it's shocking..I too didn't watch the video clip.reading and seeing the pictures is enough :(

How cruel. I couldn't watch the video. Hopefully the film will help to stop this slaughter.

It is awful. I have seen reports of Dolphin Culls in the (Yangtze?) river before but I never imagined that this was where the likes of Seaworld and DC got their Dolphins. It is just heartbreaking.:sad2:

I have never wanted to swim with the dolphins, it doesn't seem right to me. I think at DC because of the tropical and elaborate theming etc people think it is different to other places.

I didnt watch the video either reading the article was bad enough. I hope this film does bring this to the public eye and something is done to stop this happening. More so if it does get Oscars. Too many people bury their heads in the sand when these things come to light human nature I suppose.:sad2:

Thats what i thought before i read that article, i assumed that they used recused dolphins etc not ones stolen from the sea. If i had known different i would not of swam with them.

I think if we ever back to WDW, Discovery Cove is off the itenary.....SW possibly aswell.I cant support any parks that condones stealing dolphins from there homes.

They do it with killer whales too. They round up a family pod, separate them and then 'steal' the ones they want. The pod then spends hours calling for the missing members.

All in the name of entertainment...

I do think that we need to be careful in assuming that SW obtain their animals this way. They are very big on promoting their animal care, capture and release programmes etc and it may be a huge injustice to them.

I remember that advert of that bear chained up performing in Turkey or somewhere, made me cry everytime i saw it.

I really do hope SW do not obtain there animals like that.

I wasn't that keen on Seaworld when I went, it wouldn't be that bad if they were recused and were not made to do tricks. I also read that seaworld doesn't conform to EU animal welfare regulations which apparently are pretty hard to meet which is why there is none of these type of parks in europe. In America and the caribbean they are not as strict rules.

I'm not condoning or supporting SeaWorld or the Anheuser-Busch organization, but you are incorrect regarding your statement about EU animal welfare regulations. There are plenty of such parks in Europe (they are littered over Portugal/Spain/Italy, for example) and many of them have worse standards of hygiene and animal care than that found at SeaWorld parks.

Like I said it was what I read, it was in something that specificlay spoke against all 3of the Orlando parks by name, they are not my claims or statements which is why I worded it like I did. It is up people to read things for them selfs and not take someone elses word for it though. The link was posted on here around the time the new water park opened, not sure if it was a UK or USA board though.

I agree, we last went to SW in April 2007, when we re-visited in October of the same year it was off the list and will continue to be so. The place just makes me feel uneasy, I don't care much for zoos either. DC doesn't appeal at all.

I don't claim to have "read up" on Seaworld or the standards that the Anheuser-Busch organisation claims to hold up, I just know I don't like the place, and I don't think I would visit Aquatica either.

I have seen these places advertised whilst travelling around the Med and would never visit one, I dread to think what conditions these creatures are kept in :sad1:

I'm really interested in seeing this film. I've always felt uneasy with the idea of swimming with dolphins, as well as not seeing the attraction of it on a personal level I always wonder what if they 'turned' or something... I know they usually bond with people but who's to say that is always the case especially since swimming with humans isn't exactly a natural thing for them to do. I've visited Seaworld a few times but have no interest in doing so again... Only watched the shows the first time we went as, again, they made me feel uneasy.

Yes, to our European eyes (including mine) this is appauling.
However we do try to inflict our views on other societies. I'm not talking about the capturing of the dolphins to be used for our amusement, (though you should all write to sea world and make your views known, as they are not going to read the Dis or any petition) but the killing of whales and dolphions for meat. This is a normal food for the Japanese, whilst it is not our way, it is theirs, rather like the mass farming of cows, chickens, fish etc that we do, or even the way that animals are slaughtered for the halal meat, the draining of the animal whilst still alive.
What about the breeding of bulls for the Spanish to amuse themselves with? or the way they t4reat Donkeys?
Or even the clubbing of seals. How long has that campaign been going yet it still occurs?

do you all boycott Canadian goods?
do you not buy your Japanese cars?
Do you not buy Spanish goods or go to Spain for your holidays?
do you not allow your local councils to license Halal slaughterhouses?

I understand the absolute outrage at this matter, but apart from posting on this site or signing a petition which will not be read, what steps yourself are you going to take against ALL of these, what we see in our UK minds as injustices? not just the Sea World situation?

I remember a monkey in a bird cage in a bar in spain which is something that people would be outraged in the UK to see. I have seen horses and donkeys in Spain that were poorly looked after, they were used to give rides around the town. I remember my grandad saying they laughed at him in portugal when he said something was against EU rules and said that they didn't let the EU tell them how to run there buisnesses like the Birtish.

I think we're going slightly off topic here, none of us are talking about the slaughter of animals for food in a different culture from our own. I've eaten Fois Gras when I was younger, when I didn't know how is was made. I would not eat it now. As a Disney/Orlando tourism forum we are talking about mis treatment of animals for "our" amusement and where I do agree with you that signing a petition or posting about it on here doesn't achieve much, I would like to point out that quite a few of us (me included) have said that we will not visit SW, DC or Aquatica which I think is quite a powerful point. After this film is seen by more people, perhaps they will do the same.
I for one have never been convinced by Seaworld's "conservation" policy.

I agree, I didn't post this thread to talk about the slaughter of animals for food in other cultures, i was just stating if this is how these poor dolphins are caught for "entertainment" reasons then I refuse to play any further part in it which means staying away from parks that condone this behaviour and spending my money elsewhere.

(Did that make any sense :rotfl:)
