My husband and I took our family on the Magic last September and are leaving again next week for the Western cruise. We have a few questions about things we observed last time, some of these seem to be "secret" things......:)

1. What is the friends of Bill W that meet all over the ship on every cruise??

2. When we were in port last time, we saw they had lowered lifeboats to test them and people were on them.....can anyone do this, or was it only crew members??

3. And last, we saw that there is a new deal if you book your next cruise on board your current one....has anyone done this, and how great is the savings?? We want to know if we should bring a deposit....;)

Thanks!!

I only can help you with question #3. If you book on board you get a $200 stateboard credit for a 7 night cruise and a $100 credit on a 4 day cruise. That credit is applied toward your next cruise, not the one you are on. The deposit on a 7 night is $250 per person.

Are you going with us on the 14th?
Friends of Bill W is AA meetings.

The other two I don't know but do plan to find out about booking our fifth cruise while on this one.

Friends Of Bill W. is a meeting of Alcholics Anonymous.

Bill Wilson co founded AA and members refer to themselves in public with just the initial of one's last name and as friends of Bill W.

I am grateful that DCL provides a room for friends to gather in. It is always rewarding to meet people from all over with the same trials as me.

Sometimes a person could be newly sober and a lot of the "happy drinking" or "issues" that sometimes accompany family travel might put one in a bad frame of mind and it is always good when you can talk to another who has been down the same path to make you feel like you're not alone. :D

Micksgirl,
The "Friends of Bill W" are members of Alcoholics Anonymous. They hold meetings for them on-board, as attending regular meetings is a large part of the 12 steps.

The life boats lowered were part of the required crew training, that must happen constantly. I doubt that the people in the boats were guests.

Have fun on your cruise!

Allison,

How are you? I thought about you recently when thinking about eating at Jungle Jims.

Are you going on the Cruisetober Fest II cruise? Oct 11, 2003.

We are doing the western this year as well, Oct 26! Love to hear some info about it when you get back.

Take care,
Dan

Hi Allison!

When I first opened this thread, there were NO responses to it yet and I thought - good! I can answer some of her questions. But then the phone rang and upon my return, you have all your answers!

So, just saying hello and, like Dan, asking you to consider Cruisetoberfest II on October 11, 2003!

Have a great cruise next week and don't forget to let us know how it went!

As previously stated, Friends of Bill W. is an AA meeting and no, guests are not allowed on the lifeboats during drills.

There are no SAVINGS with booking onboard BUT that is currently the only way to get the Castaway Club return cruiser credit for your next cruise, so there definitely is an incentive to book onboard. :)
