secret porthole

is an outside room with a large porthole There are only a handful of them on the ship. The porthole has a large drum that hangs outside covering much of the window (so you pay a lower price), but you can still see "around" it. It's a poor man's way of getting a window!

To elaborate a little on what heart4dis said - the "secret porthole rooms" are Category 10 staterooms with obstructed views. So you get an outside stateroom for the inside stateroom price! There are only six of these staterooms on each ship and of the six staterooms, there are two sets of connecting staterooms.

We stayed in one last cruise & liked it. It's a huge round window. You CAN see around the stuff hanging outside so I feel it's better than an inside cabin. Of course, I've never HAD an inside cabin - the closest I've come is a regular round porthole that opened & it was nice, but NOTHING compares to a verandah!
