I will be arriving in Orlando 2 days before my husband in July. He will be renting a car at the airport. Does anyone know if I can be added as a second driver without actually going to the airport when he picks up the car?

I'm going to take an educated guess at this. I think you have to be there in person with your drivers license in order to be added to the contract. However, most of the rental companies have locations somewhere on Disney property (Alamo and National are at the Car Care Center, for example). I bet you could go to the Disney location to add yourself to the contract.

We have rented from National and Budget at MCO before, and are members of both of their free "member clubs." Spouses are automatically covered as an additional driver if you are a member. That said, we have always presented both sets of ID when checking out at the kiosk. I would definitely call your rental company and find out how they handle the situation. It may be as simple as him presenting them with a photo copy of your drivers license and them entering your info when he checks out at the kiosk.

Generally, no the second driver does not have to be present to be added to the contract, and as PPs have stated, there is no charge to add a spouse. That being said, you should check with the rental company, but whenever I've rented a vehicle I've been able to add DW without her being there. However, I would photo copy your driver's license so he can bring it with him.

I always rent my cars using a link provided by my auto insurance company. Spouses as well as others (even non-family) who are insured by the same company are covered.

You might want to check your insurance company and see if they have any special programs like this.

My personal experience with many different rental companies is that additional drivers must show their valid license to be added as a driver. I'm sure that isn't always enforced.
