Hi all. We are leaving in 2 weeks to DL. We plan a 1-day trip into San Diego. I'm trying to sell the idea of Seaworld to my DH. He's not totally convinced we should go. Our last trip there was 5 years ago and it was so-so. But I've heard that it has changed considerably with new shows and attractions.

We have 2 DDs (ages 3 and soon-to-be-7). What do you all think? Would it be entertaining for our 2 DDs of those ages and my DH? Your opinions are most welcome! Thanks!

We LOVE Sea World...have annual passes in fact. We have been taking my little sister since she was about 3 (she is 8 now) and she loves it, too. There is enough to fill up a day which is a lot of fun for all. Our favorite thing to do is visit Rocky Point Preserve and buy fish to feed the bottlenose dolphins. You can lean right over and pet them, too. We also like to visit Shamu Close Up and watch the killer whales swim by the big windows. For your DDs, there is Shamu's Happy Harbor, a huge children's playground, sort of like a giant McDonalds playplace, but with an arcade, water area, and other things too.

Other relatively new things are Shipwreck Rapids (a water raft ride like Kali River Rapids at AK or Grizzly River Run at DCA) and Wild Arctic, which is a combination ride (or movie, depending on what side you choose) and animal exhibit, with polar bears, beluga whales, and walruses. There is also Cirque de la Mer, a new show which replaced the Baywatch stunt show. A new sea lion show has been added (Fools with Tools - a spoof of Home Improvement's Tool Time) as well, along with Pirates 4D, a new movie, like Muppets:3D.

I have (and have had) SW passes for many years including last year, but did not renew again this year because I felt that with a small child there wasn't a lot to do. My ds is only 2 so sitting through shows is not something that we do yet. Maybe since your guys are older that would be better. I just dont think that there is a ton to do there unless you are doing all the shows. We go for 3-4 hours and have seen everything. My dh thinks it is a waste of money. I love SW and always have.

We just went to Sea World in July for my niece's b-day and also took a friends little girl (both age 4) and they loved it! We did do almost all the shows, including Shamu twice (once during the day and once at night). The only one we didn't do was the Pirate 4-D show which had a warning that it may be too intense for small children (my niece does not like anything loud and dark), but they enjoyed everything else. Your DD's would probably enjoy it, especially if they like animals.

We have had passes to Sea World for a number of years. When we go we usually make a weekend of it, one day we will do the shows and the next the walk-through exhibits. Our girls have always loved going to Sea World. It can be challenging for small children since they can get bored waiting for the shows to start.

They have a new show called “Pets Rule”. Which as the name would indicate is made up of common house pets (and not so common) doing a number of tricks and stunts. The show is entertaining and very fast paced.

Pets rule was my 8 year lds favorite.

Dine with Shamu was cool. We had seats near the slide out area and we were up close and personal and wet.

We've gone to different Sea Worlds for many years and we just love them! We tried the San Diego location this summer and we really had a great time and never ran out of things to do. The only thing DS missed was the waterpark that the San Antonio location has but he still had fun. He is 9 now but he's always loved the Shamu and sea lion shows, and the kids play area has always been a big hit. Pets Rule was real cute and Pirates 4D was fun and not too intense IMO. I am usually disappointed by the food at Sea World (the ONLY place where I've gotten burnt popcorn) but we may try dining with Shamu next time. We spotted the dessert table and it looked great!
