hi guys! :goodvibes

I'm doing a travel speech on Seattle WA.

i have a budget of $6000, i already have my hotel and flight but am having a hard time deciding what to do when there and places to eat.

if you guys could help that would be great!

Space needle, Pike's Place Market, ferry ride, etc.

I'm confused about your "speech." Are you just supposed to plan a trip and tell about it? I'm assuming this is some sort of class project? If you give more details I'm sure there are a bunch of us who will be able to help you. Or are you actually coming to Seattle - I'm so confused!

Lots of fun places to eat at Pike Place Market, and in the downtown area.

When are you going?

There is Pike Place Market, the Pacific Northwest Ballet, Mariners & Sounders games (baseball & soccer), the Experience Music Project, Pacific Science Center, and much more.

Seattle is full of stuff to do!

ok lemme explain, i was sort of in a rush when i posted that earlier so now i'll add details. :goodvibes

this is for my speech class. i am "competing" with another girl to see who can plan the better trip (by my teachers standards) and book his trip. it has to be 5 to 8 minutes long, and i have to use a powerpoint ( :headache: ) to present it.

the trip can only be 7 days long. 7. no more. no less. that does include travel days, no extra days for traveling basically. i chose july 1st (a thursday) through the 7th (wednesday). i do already have a flight picked, but that could be changed if need be.

i have also already selected the hotel. i picked the Hyatt at Olive 8. beautiful!! but i suppose if need be that could be changed as well.

i have to present one meal and one activity for each day.

so the thing is i have to make this appealing to my teacher. it a "trip" for him and his wife. so here are a few things about them:
  1. His wife is DEATHLY afraid of fish. living or dead. so anything involving fish is out!
  2. He owes her a trip to a piano bar after he ruined her surprise on a cruise...
  3. He likes baseball. she doesn't mind it but it's not something she would jump at.
  4. His favorite color is green... not sure how that helps but who knows...
  5. He likes cities. he likes to be in the middle of things and like the structures of buildings and stuff.
  6. If they need to rent a car it needs to be kept simple. They own a Toyota Prius
  7. He would prefer to leave a small carbon footprint and use public transportation if possible.
  8. His wife enjoys spas... he doesn't exactly like the fact "Hans" will have his hands on his wife...
  9. HE IS A THEATER JUNKIE. he is (obviously) my speech teacher but also teachers theater classes and play production. He also directs many of the school plays. I would say that this is one of the more important aspects to keep in mind.

so yeah... thanks so much guys for what you've already suggested. i hope this clears things up a bit!! :goodvibes

LOL:lmao:Yea.....she might freak out at the fish FLYING through the air at the Pike Place Market! :lmao:

They do have a great Piano Bar there---awesome fun! Good late night entertainment. I forget the name, but you can google it.

Does she like water activities---the duck boats are informative and fun. Other fun (and somewhat educational) activities are the underground tour and the book store in Pioneer Square.

Check Tripadvisor. They have great options. It would be too bad to go to Seattle and not enjoy the seafood, but there are other great resteraunts. At the top of the Seattle Center, is a really good Mexican place, called Mexico (creative name, huh?).

Check the ballets/concerts/musicals online that would be town.

I'd suggest entering Pike Place BELOW street level, most of the fish throwing takes place above on Pike Street :)

I highly recommend they go out to Snoqualmie Falls for one night. http://www.salishlodge.com/?WT.mc_id=SnoqualmieFallsWebsite

There is an easy hike to the bottom of the Falls and the Lodge is beautiful.
They have a spa and some rooms have wood burning fireplaces, spa tubs, and views of the waterfalls. Its very peacefull and romantic. My DH porposed there.

Other fun stuff:
Ferry boat ride at sunset. They can ride the ferry across to bainbridge island, stay on and just ride back. The view of the city and the water is great on a nice day. We used to love taking a ferry ride and then walking along the waterfront to eat at the Spaghetti Factory.

If they like aviation/planes, the Museum of Flight is really nice. They can get a city pass that will give them entry to a certain number of popular attractions.

I have a real trip planned to Seattle starting on 7/1. Tell ya what, you give me the $6000, and I'll report back what we spent it on. ;)

:rotfl::rotfl2::goodvibes

After googling and looking at pictures, the gum wall is going on the list. ROFL!

Our favorite place to eat is Salty's on Alki Beach. It is mainly seafood, but I'm sure they have steaks, etc. And the view is to die for. go on a clear night. Alki is a lot of fun to walk along the beach--there are some cool places to shop and eat. And great places for pictures.

I second Snoqualmie Lodge for a night/spa--beautiful.

See the first Starbucks at Pike Place Market--there's almost always live musicians threre. Stay outside on this street and she won't see fish, although can't promise she wouldn't get a whiff! There are some great stalls out there to stop at--we love to get pastries, flowers, coffee, etc. along this street. Watch them make cheese and maybe take some for a picnic at Beechers. We always have to stop and get some Turkish Delight at the end of the street (candy from Narnia movies)

So I'm guessing the aquarium is out? There is the Seattle Underground tour (http://www.undergroundtour.com/about/index.html), the Music Experience, the Space Needle (which has a restaurant), Beecher's (been featured on one of the food channels), , Museum of Flight, there are lots of theaters downtown (Legally Blonde broadway version is playing in one now). The tour de Chocolate (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g60878-d1719138/Seattle:Washington:Tour.De.Chocolate.html) There is the new light rail, which is inexpensive and does stop at the airport. Also, I believe, the buses are free downtown.
HTH

your trip is over the july 4th holiday

they have the fireworks- big celevration

there is also the air show- i think it is in that time frame- could be wrong.

the aquarium has a great boat tour- there is a nice little restaurant-can't remember the name russian food- get the pastries- they are yummy

there is other stuff- like shopping- going to the casino not just to play they have a great spa- or so the commercials say

there is the mariners- that is a little south but bus service- there is also minor league baseball in tacoma- there is fun baseball!

take the ferry to one of the islands

[*]His favorite color is green... not sure how that helps but who knows...

WA is known as the Evergreen State and Seattle is sometimes referred to as the Emerald City...maybe throw that into your 'sales pitch', that would cover your color green requirement I would think. :thumbsup2

Before Safeco field was named Safeco field (where the Mariners play), they almost named it the "Emerald Diamond" but Safeco won. I still like to call it the Emerald Diamond!

Where does Seattle set their fireworks off from for 4th of July? And are they usually on 7/4 or another night?

Also, there is a 7/4 Parade? Where is that usually so we don't get caught up in traffic while in the city for the day.

If staying in Bellevue, where might be a good place to watch Seattle's fireworks & still be able to make a quick exit back to Belleuve without being caught in too much Seattle traffic.
