The problem is that if the bar and lounge are full, they may not even let you up to the restaurant.
We ate at the bar last trip. We hadn't planned on that, but we had an ADR for 8:20, arrived at 8 and were told there was a HOUR lag time for seatings!! That's was BEYOND the secheduled ADR time. Rather than sit and watch the monorail go by for an hour,we asked if we could go up. The hostess said there was no room, but she shrugged her shoulders and said we could go up and "look around". We decided to try that and sure enough, no seats at the bar OR the lounge where we could wait. We had just decided to go back down to the lobby when two people left the bar!! We swooped in on the seats and then I asked the bartender if we could actually EAT at the bar. YES we could and that's what we did. He took back our pager and we had a fine meal at the bar probably at least an hour before we would have been seated at a table.
Long story I know, but it shows the "dynamics" of the california grill.OH--this was a Saturday night and the fireworks were at 9 that evening----
