Seating at Sci-Fi

We have an ADR for Sci-Fi. We really want to sit in a car booth - not a bench table or the normal tables with a car front and back. When making an ADR for Sci-Fi (we have a party of 8), I asked for 2 tables of 4 so we could sit at a car booth. I was told that I could not do that. I was given a table for 8 and was told to ask to separate into 2 tables when we check-in at the podium. This does not sound right to me.

Has anyone been to Sci-Fi with a large group? Where were you seated? I think that the largest car booth has 3 rows which will only seat 6 of us. We really don't mind being separated into 2 groups of 4 or a group of 6 and a group of 2.

We went in January with a group of 11. On the phone, the CM told me she was going to book us 3 cars, 4 in one, 4 in second, 3 in third. When we got there, we were put into 2 cars, 6 in one and 5 in the other. However, the car with 5 only had the first 2 benches which meant 3 people had to sit on one bench. My middle son (age 30) was half hanging out of the car trying to squeeze three onto that bench. They did not seem willing to work with us trying to get any kind of seating arrangement where I didn't have 3 people trying to share one seat.

Just so you know, almost always a group of 2 gets the backseat of a 3 bench car. They refer to them as hitchhikers. So if you split 6/2, the 2 are more than likely going to be hitchhikers in a car with 4 strangers sitting in the front 2 bench seats of a car.

Have you thought about just calling, making 2 different ADR's of 4 under 2 different names to guarantee that you would sit in 2 separate cars?

When I made a ressie at sci-fi they told me they would not do any seating requests until we checked in at the restaurant. I'm hoping that's the right information!

1) Eight do not fit into one car, unless 3-4 folks are really small.
2) Plus, they cannot schedule "cars" at ADR time.
3) They can only schedule open chairs.
4) These may or may not be cars or tables.

That is what I originally tried to do. After waiting on hold for 1 1/2 hours, I asked for 2 separate ADRs for 4 people each at the same time. The person on the phone told me that I couldn't do it. She told me to make an ADR for 8 people and have the CM at the podium split us up when we check in at Sci-Fi. We really don't care how they split us up. We don't need to sit together. If I wouldn't have had to wait so long on the phone, I would have made 1 ADR for 4 people then hung up, called back, and made the other one.
