seatbelts on Splash Mt. ?

If you are thinking about what happened at the Steel Pier, I think SM's water system works a little differently. If the ride shuts down I noticed that they make sure the water is running first then the cars go. If I read The Press right there was no water in the tank at the bottom.

What happened at the steel pier and where is it?

Man in critical condition after log flume accident
(Saturday, June 18, 2005) - At Steel Pier amusement park in Atlantic City, New Jersey, four people were injured on a log flume ride called the Big Splash. Reports indicate that no water was present in the basin at the end of the ride when the victims' car made its descent. One man was ejected from the ride and thrown through a sheet of plexi-glass. He was hospitalized in critical condition. The other riders, the man's wife and three children, suffered minor injuries.
The ride has been shut down pending a state investigation

I actually wasn't thinking about this when I asked. I mean I knew about this but I was really just thinking about the log flume type rides I've been on (wildwood boardwalk and six flags Great Adventure). Both of them made me feel very unsafe.

I usually hide behind my wife on the big drop on Splash. Makes for an embarassing photo!

Do you get less wet if you hide behind someone? My DD8 dosen't want to get wet, but really wants to experience the rest of the ride. If she could hide behind me to get less wet that would be great. We plan on letting her wear a rain poncho, but it's really the splash in the face she's trying to avoid.

Why would you need seatbelts on Splash Mountain?

The part where it goes upside down and does 2 loops is fast enough to where you are kept in your seat by G-Force.
