Hi

Has anyone with young children ever taken a waterproof seat protector on a plane? If so, can you recommend one?

DD will be 4 in March, and we don't go until end of July. She sometimes has the odd accident in her sleep, or if she leaves it too long before saying she needs to go.

It just occurred to me that if she's engrossed in something on the plane, she may leave it too long and end up with a wet seat. I know this may have completely stopped by then, but I was just looking at back up plans.

Also, DS will be 2 in April, and I'm not sure at which stage in the toilet training process he will be at.

Might the nighttime underwear they make for children who wet the bed be an option for either/both? They might be a bit more discreet too. :) You can even get them with Disney characters on!

not a seat protector but the pampers mattress protector (the disposable ones assuming they still make them) were faithful friends of ours a few years ago. Easier to dispose of too if they are used.

We used pull ups for DD on the plane until she was more reliable and could hold on.

My other concern was the seat belt signs coming on and she needed to go - she never used them but they were a good security measure. It was easier than having to put something over the seat.

We used the Bedtime underwear you can buy, not needed but felt better having the security of knowing my DD wouldnt be embarassed if she was caught short.

I think if you go on the website you can get a free sample to see if you think they will be suitable before you purchase a pack.

Bed mats are a good idea, thanks, I hadn't thought of those. I've just bought a big pack from Amazon too (cheaper than the shops). We have a travel pot too, would it be acceptable to use that on the seat if the seat belt sign comes on (or there's a queue)? We're in a row by the window, just us.

I am sorry but I don't think using a travel potty is acceptable at all IMO.

Pull ups or similar sound like your best bet.

I don't think you're allowed to throw the potty contents out of a plane window ;)

Seriously though, though I would probably not bat an eyelid at it, being a young child, if I even noticed, there may be health regulations that prohibit this and I think you would have to be prepared for someone complaining.

And there's not much space there either even for a small kid on the floor. Can you imagine if the pot got kicked over or stepped in or if you dropped it on someone on your way to empty it .....

A travel pot is not like an ordinary pot. No worries though. I'll speak to BA and get their official stance on it.

Ive been on flights where there have been a few accidents. The flight attendants are used to it. Usually they'll swap the seat cushion with a spare one, I think they also have a back up one-just in case.
People do use the portable pots all the time one the planes. Mainly used by the disabled but others use them too.
As long as youre discrete and deal with everything yourself, I don't think there should be a problem.
Always worth getting the 'official' stance on it though. :goodvibes

Thanks.

It was just a thought for emergency/worst case scenarios.

I get that a travel potty is different, most of them fold up and seal the pot contents in the pot,

I personally would not say anything but I know plenty who would!
A quick wee is one thing but please dont use it for no2 the toilet smells bad enough without sitting next to a toddler taking there time to er......

Does remind me of the time that my son was in the car though, and we was in a huge traffic jam, my son was desperate and ended up peeing in the McDonald's cup haha!

Oh, please give me some credit!

I simply said that if my daughter desperately needed a wee and there was a queue or no time to get to the toilet, would it be acceptable to use a travel pot where we were seated.
