Seat Assignment and Southwest

All these stories are why we won't fly SW. The savings isn't worth the cattle-call boarding proces mayhem. We tried it once to MCO. DD was 5, so no pre-board for us, but practically half the plane did pre-board. Ugh! Never again. I'll happily pay for for a seat assignment.

To the OP, best of luck and happy travels!
Actually, in our particular case, the lowest fare I've seen so far to go to FL from Indianapolis during spring break time is on United, with a stopover in Chicago. SWA want a whopping $189 EACH WAY. Last month, we flew for $123 each, for a total of less than $600 for all of us. I don't think we are going spring break (I am on call one of the weekends, which really would cut the trip short--can't leave the county I practice in until after 8:30am on Monday. If I am waiting at the gate at the airport, I am not within practice guidelines for my hospital). Fortunately, the difference in cost between United or, formerly, ATA and SWA has never been enough to break me.

Can someone answer the questions of the original post? I think these questions have been answered: yes, 24 hours for on-line BP, great idea to come 2hours or earlier, and A, B,C are clearly marked.

1. Can she get all the BP on-line even if there are four of them?
2. If they are told that they need to get tgeir BPs at the terminal, is 2 hours enough time to probably get A BPs
3. Most likey, they will be preboarded since they are travelling with a 2 year old and possibly can further be insured if they tell SW that it's the kids' first time.

We only have flown once with our 1 year old at the time and 5 yo and my wife. We got our boarding pass on line 24 hours prior, got there 2 hours early, took our stroller to the gate and checked it at the gate, were preboarded, sat 3 on one side and me on the other and changed seats with wife halfway and prior to landing, picked up stroller at the gate and picked up our luggages. We got lucky but eveb when everything worked fine it was still hectic. Good luck!

We would probably fly SW one more time after that we will just fly airlines with reserved seating
