This started out of my search for this poem:

January brings the snow,
Makes our feet and fingers glow.

February brings the rain,
Thaws the frozen lake again.

March brings breezes sharp and shrill,
Shakes the dancing daffodil.

April brings the primrose sweet,
Scatters daisies at our feet.

May brings flocks of pretty lambs,
Skipping by their fleecy dams.

June brings tulips, lillies, roses,
Fills the children's hands with posies.

Hot July brings cooling showers,
Apricots and gillyflowers.

August brings the sheaves of corn,
Then the harvest home is borne.

Warm September brings the fruit,
Sportsmen then begin to shoot.

Brown October brings the pheasant,
Then to gather nuts is pleasant.

Dull November brings the blast,
Then the leaves go whirling past.

Chill December brings the sleet,
Blazing fire and Christmas treat.

As we're just wrapping up a monthly swap it seems a bit premature to do another one. But how about a seasonal recipe swap? Each recipe to be headed with the appropriate couplet and to be a dish suited to the month/season, preferably using as many seasonal ingredients as possible (no strawberry tarts for Christmas!). Would anyone be interested?

Here's where it gets complicated:

12 months = 12 recipes so I'd propose keeping it to one group with one slot each to start, possibly opening up another group (who might do 2 recipes each) if there was demand.

Now, I'm happy to host but I don't know how you folks would feel about the postage implications? For the record, it cost me £7.99 (about $16) to mail the monthly swap (embellishments + page kits) plus the school swap to Mickeyteacher. For one group it would probably be nearer £4.50 ($9), which is about what I send to hostesses for my return postage for one group, or more for two. No-one has yet said "where's the rest of my $ for postage" so I'm presuming either its enough or you're all too polite to mention it  So if you say you like the idea but don't want that much postage then I'm more than happy for one of you swapmeisters to take it on.

As for when it is run, there's nothing down for October yet, or we could run it up to 22 June then I could get everything back to you in time for 4 July so you could try out the recipes on your family!

All views are welcome! But I'm bagging November as I have an idea already:rolleyes1

I would be interested, I would have to think a bit to come up with a recipe. I am guessing these would be set at the same size as the other recipes we have been doing.

Rebecca

I'm interested. Even though I don't cook, this would make an awesome gift.

Excellent point! I'd be interested. Now, to think about which month...

I think I would like August. I have a great recipe for corn chowder, but you can do it in the crock pot too, so it won't make the house hot.

Looking good so far!

rlovew - yes, I think same size as previous recipe swap would be good (I've still got some empty pockets to fill ;) )

How do you all feel about the hosting/timing issues? I'm happy to host (my postman needs more work - I've had only junkmail for DAYS! :lmao: ) if you're all happy with that. Then I can go order more paper!....er :rolleyes1

I love these swaps. I would be in. I would take February and do a King Cake for Mardi Gras.

I think it would be easier to have someone in the states host or co-host with you so that mailing is cheaper. I would be willing to get the stuff sent to me if you wanted to keep track of who was doing what month and the such. You could take care of sign-ups and I could have people send things in to me and keep track of that side of the swap if you wanted.

Rebecca

That would work for me! Thanks Rebecca. If everyone is OK with that I'll open sign-ups when I get in tonight, looks like everyone is rareing to go:car: :cool1:

Thank you for volunteering Rebecca. It'll be much easier on the pocket book that way.

Ohhh, my Chocolate Bomb goes well for December and Christmas Treats

Mazda could you put me down for November. I will do a hearty Beef Stew with fall and winter vegetables, I may not be around when you open sign-ups and I definately want to be in on it.

rebecca

Your beef stew would work really well for September or October, I think Mazda already called dibs on November.

Yup! Sorry, I've bagged November. But it would be great for October - just the thing to come back to after Trick or Treating!

I could also do Ghost in the Graveyard for October if somebody would like that better than Mardi Gras' King Cake.

I've given October to rlovew at the moment - King cake sounds lovely to me! (I love cake )

I'll do the King cake then. It is not the kind of cake you are thinking of. It had a treasure in it and is multi colored.

I really like the Mardi Gras theme idea. Lots of purples & greens with gold coins & beads and a jester face.

What about jambalaya, shrimp creole, Mississippi Mud Pie, anything with catfish or crawdaddys? Dirty rice, red beans & rice, black beans & rice, your choices are endless with that theme.
