Any idea when seasonal dining prices go into effect for summer 2010? We are traveling May 23-30th and it looks like those prices started 5/24 this year. That increase could have a huge weight on whether we go dining plan or not. Any one heard the dates yet?

The holiday surcharge ends April 10th and begins again on June 4th.

Disney has caught on to the fact that the seasonal dining charges were a factor in some people choosing the dining plan. In 2010 there are different rates for the seasonal periods. These are:

2/12/10 - 4/10/10
6/04/10 - 8/14/10
12/17/10 - 12/31/10

Yes, just to add to this for PirateGirl -- the DDP will cost more during these times of the year is what Hootch is saying, so not just OOP will have the surcharges but the DDP as well.

(and maybe everyone else understood that all already but I thought I would just say it because it wasn't that clear to me as to whether the OP was going to GET the DDP if she was going during the surcharge period or NOT GET the DDP if she was going in that period).

a-ha, I did not know that the DDP was more during those periods. That's a bummer, that extra 'savings' would probably intice people to get the plan that normally wouldn't. Thanks for the info that just makes it that much more important to go as soon as the kids get out of school. I made our ressies for 5/23-5/30 and if they have more than 2 'make up days for snow' they are just gonna have to miss the last days of school, which its rare for them to close for snow but you know how luck goes. It's definately not worth the increase in room rates, dining prices and crowds to not go that last week of May.

We are actually debating now on whether to get the dining plan in the future.Wit hte increase duiring peakk times, which is when we are able to go usually (March) the savings isn't much. We saved in the past, but not alot and we always ate more food than we really HAD to eat, so my thought is if we skip the dining plan and just eat less snacks and CS, we will do better. Still deciding on it though. DD and I tend to share alot of CS's. And half the time DH wouldn't get all that was included, because he either didn't want it or forgot the extras. We really like the prepay factor, but wish they still included tips in the plan.

I am an OCD planner (and have 6 months to kill till our next trip) so I pulled up all the menu's on all ears, figured out exactly how much the DDP meals would cost us and then figured what we would save. Yeah its more food and its gonna save us a bout $350, but cost $200 more than if we ate OOP. OOP expenses I figured on what we would normally order if no dining plan (no desserts and no additional soft drinks, etc) But if we ate OOP we would only do 2 TS vs 7 ATS and share alot of CS meals. I figured for the $200 it was not worth the hassle of HAVING to share meals and fussing w/ the kids over what drinks w/ lunch and sharing snacks, etc. All that added to the stress at the end of the week when I might have a potential sticker shock suprise of paying close or more than the DDP would have been when the bill comes, made me decide to just go for it.

Plus since AP rates came out yesterday I saved another $120 over my pin so in my mind the DDP is costing me less and less.

This is great news as our vacation dates are May 26-June 3!!! This means that not only was the Dining Plan cheaper but we will also avoid the "surcharge" for the 3 character breakfasts that we are paying for out-of-pocket.
I just wish May 26th would hurry and get here!! :thumbsup2
