I've recently been diagnosed with seasonal allergies here in N. Illinois; I'm wondering if people find their allergies to be worse when visiting Florida? Or could I hope to find relief there (then maybe my dh would agree to move there! :p )

Sue, this is pretty much off of pulledoutofmybutt.com, but my seasonal allergies are terrible where I live. My DH, on the other hand, doesn't suffer from them at all. UNTIL, that is, we get off the plane in Florida. My allergies miraculously disappear, and he becomes a Benadryl junkie for the length of our stay.

So, kind of a crap shoot -- maybe you'll be lucky like me, and your system won't react to Florida allergens!

I have terrible allergies, and I have not had a problem in Florida, BUT, I still take my allergy medication, so I am usually fine.

Some people say they are worse in Florida, and some say they are better.

I used to live in Indiana, and my allergies were AWFUL - I moved to Tennessee, and my allergies are now controllable, and I hardly ever have a problem.

I would just take your normal medication, and you should be fine!

Seasonal allergies arise from the pollen and allergens found in your area - depending on the types of grasses, flowers and trees. Since the foliage in Florida varies from that of Illinois (and CT, where I live), you may not have any problem at all.

The best thing IMHO is to keep taking your medicine just to be on the safe side.

As a medical professional I can add that many individuals are alergic to molds, so their symptoms will often worsen in Florida in a wetter/humid environment and often increased by mold from air conditioners. Your prescription should work for molds also if you find that you are bothered. As far as the seasonal allergies it depends what you are allergic to. If it is a specific grass or tree pollen you will probably be symptom free, but if you have multiple crossover allergies such as flower pollen they have them in Florida too!!

I wish you a sneeze free itchless vacation!!

I'm going to the allergist for my skin testing today, so hopefully I will find out what I'm allergic to. Maybe he can test me for the common Florida allergens as well. I'm just so pathetic that I thought that this may be my ticket to getting dh to agree to move to FL to be near the mouse  I think I may stop by the psychiatrist's office while I'm there--this obsession w/ WDW is getting out of hand!

with seasonal allergies you need to find out when things blooms in florida! My son has tree/grass pollen allergeries which flare up here in VT in April/May. However, the last couple of trips to FL in February/March, he has needed his medicine because things "bloom" there much earlier...

Once you know what you are allergic to, you can check out the seasons in FL for that allergen (or grouping like trees, grass) and see if you will need the meds (but I would bring them anyway!).

I recommend using the Weather Channel site on allergies, when you're about to embark on a trip. You can check what allergens are prevalent in the area you're headed to. I checked for Orlando last month and started taking my Claritin. Good luck...:D
