Season pass question

I'm not sure if this has been asked before or not...if I purchase the Platinum Plus season pass does it need to be renewed as Platinum Plus or can you renew it as a Gold pass at the Gold pass rate?

You can "renew" to ANY level of AP at renewal time and still get the renewal rate
for the AP you choose.
