Hi Everyone,

Could sure use your help with this one. DH & I are on the Wonder for upcoming DVC Member's cruise and DH is very concerned about seasickness.

We are on deck seven Category 5 (midship) and we're wondering about possibilities of seasickness.

Any non-Rx med's to take? Patches perhaps? We are cruise-newbies.

Your wisdom is appreciated. We are Canadians so hopefully IF we do have to take/get something, we can get it at our local Walmart before the cruise.

Maany thanks!!!! :yay:

Well, DD and I were very concerned about us getting seasick while on our first cruise. (Luckily, we never got sick...) But, we brought seasickness pills and they helped us a lot. No experiences with the patch, though. :)

My mom has wrist bands that you put on and they help with motion sickness of any sort. They work to.

I get sick in a car, so I got the patch. I only used one because my mouth and throat got so dry that I could hardly swallow and when I wore my contact lenses, everything was blurry. These are both listed as possible side effects and unfortunately I experienced both. Ginger is very good for nausea and there is a homeopathic remedy called "Motion Sickness" that's very good.

If you get sick reading in cars, you are probably more likely to get seasick. If not, there is less of a chance.

I get horribly seasick, but take a meclazine (brand name Bonine) the day before the cruise and every day of the cruise and I do great. Except on glass bottom boats in Key West. I did the patch once and only experienced slight dry mouth. My best friend did the patch and had horrible vision issues and then suffered vertigo after stopping.

Bonine is great, no drowsiness. They have complimentary "generic" bonine at the health office on the ship. it's right outside the door, just help yourself. I would take one each morning, starting the day before the trip. Even when the seas were very rough, I had no problems, and I get seasick very easily.
Good luck!

I tend to get very motion sick and have to say that Bonine worked wonders for me. Last year I took 2 (max dosage) because I was so worried I would be sick. I forgot to take it until we were already on the ship and it was stuck in my luggage which didn't get delivered to our room until 5:00. I took it as soon as I could since the ship was on it's way by that point. I did feel very tired each night, a few hours after I took them, but I'm not really sure whether it was the Bonine or just being tired from all our activity.

Last week we cruised again and I took the Bonine, excpet this time I only took one and I started taking it the night before we traveled. No excessive sleepiness and no seasickness!!

I get horrible motion sickness from riding in cars, carnival rides and riding in boats on our local lakes here in MN. So I was very worried about getting seasick!
I started taking Bonine a day before the cruise, but soon quit taking it because I didn't feel seasick what-so-ever! I felt GREAT the whole cruise, the ships motion didn't bother me. Its a whole different kind of motion, hard to explain.
So in my case I was worried (for months prior) for no reason at all.
I would still be prepared. Bonine is a great option for most people.

I also forgot to mention that we were in room #7058, around the area you're planning on staying. I didn't feel much motion there.
Maybe just the first evening a little bit.

I second the ginger, works well for me, plus it's an overall tummy cure so it also helps with the over eating...lol

My wife is very prone to motion sickness, but it has never been a issue on any of our Magic cruises. A pharmicist friend of mine suggested the following and it has always worked for her.

Bonine or Dramamine Less Drowsy or Equivalent
Sudafed or equivalent (Just in case the above makes you drowsy)
Zantac 75 or equivalent (To keep the stomach acids in check)

She takes this in the morning with breakfast and is good for the day.

If you prefer the more natural method. I have heard and know people that take Ginger pills for motion sickness with good success.

Have a great trip!

Sean

Yet another vote for Bonine, DW and I were on a company cruise in January on the Carnival Fantasy -party boat-, definately not equal to a Disney Cruise. We took Bonine before we got on the ship and every day while onboard. During the last night of the cruise we had a big storm out at sea. The ship was rocking in every direction, DW and I laughed as we walked around the ship like pinballs bouncing all over the place, there was no way you could walk in a straight line. No, I wasn't drunk either... :rotfl2: The other members from my company didn't fare so well, they were disappearing as the night went on, they were getting sea sick and retreated to their cabins.
We didn't have any side effects from the Bonine, so to be safe we will always take it when cruising. pirate: Have a great time on the Wonder!

Gavinsmom, we were in 7084 and felt the ship rocking the first night. It seems like the faster we went, the more the ship rocked. I felt a little queasy at dinner and once on our last day there, but not enough to take anything.

Thank you sooooo much to everyone who responded. You guys are terrific!!!!

I think some Bonine is in order (if for nothing else than to alleve my husband fears of seasickness!).

Cheers to all!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

My problem was that Bonnie made me a bit drowsy. I've used the patch but also had the problems with the dry mouth (convinced that cruise lines have paid to have that side-effect added - dry mouth = buy more drinks!!).

I really rely on ginger. I start taking it a day or two before the cruise. I take two capsules 3 times a day. If at any point I start to feel the least bit queasy I just pop another ginger capsule or two. Works great - no side effects.

you say you take 2 capsules of ginger 3 times a day and you still feel queasy
and it works great?
i took bonnine 1 time a day right before i was ready to go to bed and didnt have any problems.

The advantage with the ginger is that it won't mix with the yummy drinks (alcohol :thumbsup2 ). Ginger has worked for me in the past after I got off Star Tours at MGM. Bonine works better as a preventative. Two pills of Bonine (plus extra activity, late to bed and early to rise) and I was feeling a bit drowsey on the last night. I took both ginger and bonine with me just in case.
My security blankets

My dr. just gave me the pathc but now I am thinking I should not take it...........
