Seasickness On Wonder????

Since you have the patch anyway, can you try it at home and see how it affects you ? Better to know before the trip :confused3

Great advice from all. I agree with the Bonine, but be sure to start taking it a few days before boarding. On our first cruise we had very high seas. I am very prone to seasickness and I did well. My poor husband did not fare as well. Several days in bed, poor guy.

So the second cruise he got the patches. This is a med that you need a prescription for though. He had no side effects (maybe some thirst, but then he is always thirsty) and he did not get sick. But then the seas were not nearly as bad as that first cruise.

Have a great time!

I wholeheartedly agree with the posters who voted for ginger. I wish I knew I could've taken more dosages. The waters this week were pretty calm on the Wonder. I felt they were the roughest the closer we were to land. Being higher up, you might feel more motion, but being midship, you should be o.k..

I was hoping to get pickled ginger during my meals (the same ginger served with sushi), but there wasn't any. I was served raw, shredded ginger root and that was potent! It felt like I was chewing on tree bark. Any way, here's to you having smooth waters during your trip.

OK you Ginger fans -- I want details. Please tell me the name of the brand you purchased -- the mg's or dose -- and where you bought it.
THANKS !! :teeth:

I asked the same question yesterday - no replys :confused3

I am searching all this for my mom.- First cruise for her. -She gets terriable car sickness for long trips. When she takes Dramine, shes knocked out (snoring and all)! So, after reading these threads, I think Bonine is out (cause she might be a zombie?) :bitelip:
So, what I am wondering is maybe we need to get her the patch and ginger caps and do both? :stir:
She's so afraid of ruining the trip for the kids if she gets seasick.

I have 4 relatives who went on our last cruise who get terribly sick by just looking at people on rides, let alone riding them.

The worst aunt (sickness) one took ginger pills for a whole week before the cruise, during the cruise and after. She also took a bonine every morning. We booked rooms on the lowest deck available (2) and mid-ship. We slept like babies. The only time that aunt was slightly queasy is high tea at Palo because it's at the rear of the ship and on deck 10. She took an extra Bonine and a nap and was fine.

Everybody else took bonine and one wore those wrist bands. My cousin decided not to take bonine one day because she felt so great--bad idea. But a pill and a nap set her straight.

I believe the ginger pills were bought at a health food place.

I bought my ginger in the health food aisle in a Wegmans in Virginia. GNC would be the best place to look for it though. (Start out with lowest dose recommended on the bottle) Dramamine knocks me out also, but I'm fine with one Bonine and light on the alcohol :thumbsup2 (I've been knocked out by motionsickness more times than I can count- until Bonine that is :goodvibes )
Have your Mom try the Bonine at home to see how she reacts to it. Really better to try out remedies at home and not risk the vacation :guilty:
Good luck!!

Any non-Rx med's to take? Patches perhaps? We are cruise-newbies.

Your wisdom is appreciated. We are Canadians so hopefully IF we do have to take/get something, we can get it at our local Walmart before the cruise.

The advice to take Bonine® is from Americans. Bonine is a brand name in the United States for meclizine hydrochloride, 25 mg. Dramamine® Less Drowsy is Pfizer's brand name for meclizine hydrochloride, 25 mg in the U.S.

In Canada, Bonamine (notice the name is different) is Pfizer's brand name for meclizine hydrochloride, 25 mg. Bonamine is available without a prescription according to their website. For more information about Bonamine, see this page.

In some countries, meclizine hydrochloride requires a prescription.

Meclizine hydrochloride is an antihistamine, and is likely to cause at least some drowsiness in many people. Sometimes people on this board recommend "Non-Drowsy Dramamine" — but there is no product by that name. There is a product called Dramamine Less Drowsy Formula, but, as already noted, it's the same medication as Bonine and Bonamine.

Also, in the U.S. and Canada, meclizine hydrochloride products are labeled for adults and children 12 years and over. These products should not be given to children under 12 without first checking with your pediatrician.

In the United States we can get products such as Bonine and Dramamine Less Drowsy Formula without a prescription at any pharmacy, including chains like WalMart, Walgreen, and CVS. Sometimes, we need to ask a pharmacist. At my local Target, Bonine is behind the pharmacy counter, not on the shelf. We can also get generic (much less expensive per dose) meclizine hydrochloride from the pharmacist, but usually only in larger quantities.

If you have a PharmaPlus in your neck of the woods, you should be able to get the "Less Drowsy" formula.

Don't forget they also have a supply down in the Medical Facilities!

Some also swear by Gravol? Didn't work for DD though!

Let me know if you need a supply of Bonine, as I will have access to a vehicle before the Member Cruise and will also be picking up my supply!

Walmart has ginger in the vitamin aisle. I bought some before our last cruise. The first night I was a little queasy and took 2 pills. It relieved me and I was never queasy again so never had to take any more.
