Seasickness Meds and alcohol?

We've been on two DCL cruises and have never really been bothered by the motion except a little bit on the first night. I find that lately (last few months) I am more and more sensitive to motion in general and I was thinking I might have to try some Bonine or Dramamine......Anyway, on to the question:

Do those of you that take meds for seasickness drink alcohol? We're not big drinkers, I'm talking wine with dinner and a drink or two in the bars in the evening. Is this acceptable if you happen to be taking meds? I'm guessing not and I'm wondering what everybody else has experienced.

Thanks!

We took the less drowsy Dramimine on our last 2 cruises and we all (22) of us drank. It will take you longer to feel the alcohol, some people take Dramimine before drinking to keep them from getting sick or being sick the next morning. We had no problem taking it and drinking on it.

I on the other hand had the exact opposite reaction! My DH and I were on the Wonder Sept 01 for our honeymoon and it was our first cruise. I was really nervous about getting seasick so I took the non drowsy Dramaine and then had a ouple of glasses of wine with dinner.
My DH calls that the night of our honeymoon that I turned into "Zuel the keymaster" (from Ghostbusters) because I first got really grumpy and then I just passed out - COLD!
It's funny to laugh about now, but then.... not so much! ;)

This is a family legend entitled "My Mama is Trying to Kill Me!" On our trip to Paris last year, I gave my 30 year old daughter Dramamine, then we proceeded to drink before dinner, with dinner, after dinner. She landed in Paris laying down. We had to physically walk her through Customs, sweating we'd be detained, etc. I'd say dont chance it!!! :smooth:

Actually, I believe Zuul was the gatekeeper. Vinz Clortho (the posessed body of Louis Tully, as played by Rick Moranis) was the key master of Gozer.

"Gozer the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

DRAMAMINE makes you drowsy and it's not smart to mix that with alcohol.

BONINE/MECLIZINE does NOT make most people drowsy and it's okay to drink when you take it. At least I have with no side effects. :)

Thanks! That's the info I was looking for!

Is it wise to buy some bonine ahead of time? I heard it is available on the ship.

Hopefully I won't need it at all, I never have before, but I seem to be getting more concious of motion latelyand I want to be prepared.

I think they have Bonine at the Med Center on deck 1 free of charge. I bought a box of it before our first cruise, almost 3 years ago, and still have most of it left. I'd say get a small box just in case. I'd rather have some handy in the room than have to go down and get some. I think I've taken it in the morning a couple of times when I felt motion sickness. I've never had a problem drinking with it, but haven't taken it that close to when I've had a drink.

We took Bonine (meclazine) each morning with breakfast during our recent Royal Caribbean cruise to Bermuda, drank each day, and had NO ill effects at all. :)

P.S. We took it each morning, starting the day BEFORE our cruise, because it's better to have it in your system, to PREVENT seasickness, rather than once you are already feeling sick.

Skip the drugs and try the wrist bands you can get at the drug store. They were great. I hear they even work well on roller coasters.

my pediatrician recommended trying to get sea bands for the kids instead of drugs. does any one know if they make sea bands for kids?

Same ones can be used for both - just acupressure!
And they do work for me, a person HIGHLY susceptible to even the thought of movement!!!!!
