I'm going on the May 12, 4-day cruise and even though the seas should be relatively calm, I will get seasick if I don't take something. I normally take Bonine which works great but sometimes makes my stomach feels a little "odd." Has anyone used the patch you need a prescription for? If so, did it work and what were the side affects? Thanks!

Dramamine was our drug of choice. Also gave it to DS7 one night because he was complaining about a headache and not feeling well. I bought the Bonine but didn't want to take it because people were saying it altered their state of mind. I did not find that with Dramamine. Once I took it on the 1st night I didn't need it on the others.

MIL brought the sea bands and she took the Dramamine one night and it helped her out. Probably depends on the individual.

Thanks for the info, that other thread was great. Sounds like I'll stick with Bonine and skip the patch.

We went on a cruise years ago and my husband who couldn't even go on a boat fishing, had used the patch and it worked great. He had no side effects. He wouldn't even agree to our up coming cruise if he didn't have it. I was the one who started to get sick after they brought up the stabilizers before coming into Miami!

My husband had terrible side effects from the patch... dizziness, nausea, headache, pupil dilation, spaciness.

I didn't use the patch (thank God) because I was nursing. Although I was seasick, I know my husband felt worse. Even once he took it off, as I recall, it took a while for him to feel normal again.

My Husband and I went on a 2-day Carnival Cruise this past weekend. ( Our first) We both took Bonine a couple of hours before we left. By nine o'clock Saturday night we were both wiped out. We didn't take anything the second day and were both fine. My stomach did bother me Satuday evening, but that may have just been the food I ate. (Who knows) Now I am contemplating whether I should take anything or not on our Disney Cruise in May. I would rather be sleepy than sick. Several people on our cruise did get sick, and the spa worker told me that it was pretty rough seas on our cruise. ( I figured she would know) My husband said he still felt like he was moving Monday night after we got off the ship, but I wasn't bothered at all. I'm just hoping my kids will be okay. They are 2, and 5 so I really hate to give them anything.

I'm sorry to hear that, boy, that could ruin your trip right there. I'm not reccomending it. It's just like with any medication, just because it works for one doesn't mean it'll work for another. I am just happy it worked for my husband or we wouldn't be cruising again. I do know Dramamine works well for a lot of people, my kids used to get car sick a lot. It did make them sleepy but it prevented the car sickness.
