Does anyone know...

Are seasick pills on board for us to purchase? We don't plan on getting sick, but are they available on the ship, should we need them? And the price for them?

Just trying to get last minute stuff...gosh, there's just so much to think of! Thank you! :wave2:

I went to the "clinic" one day to get a bandaid for DD. There was a basket hanging outside the door with sea sick meds in it. I assume these were free of charge.

I'd rather be safe than sorry and just purchase some Bonine before you leave. They're non-drowsy. They don't take up much room and if you need them you'll have them right in your room.

Have a great trip!

in the bin outside the medical facility is free of charge. We had packed a supply but one night things started rolling rather significantly later in the evening while DS was in Common Grounds (Magic pre-drydock). Most of the kids knew their parents had packed stuff but that those same parents were either asleep or out having a good time themselves.

So down to the medical facility they headed, grabbed what they needed and were good to go again.

Note: these were all mid and older teens who knew that this sort of med was ok for them! Counselors checked before they were allowed to go for the med.

For what it is worth, our experience in October was that there were NOT any medications available outside of the medical facility. In our explorations we went by there twice and there was nothingh.

You may have been able to ask and get some Bonine at no charge, but there was no bin, and no medicine there!

I would bring your own meds. If you have never used them before you should take a dose or two to see how you react to the side effects. Dramimine make many people very sleepy (and DW very sick). You don't want either to happen while on the ship. Check the meds out well before you leave so you can try something else if yor react badly to your original choice. Same goes for anything a Doctor prescribes because many people react badly to the scolcamine patches (whatever they are called and spelled).

thank you all for your advise! i'm not a doctor so maybe someone else can help...it's ok to take them even if you're not on a ship (or get motion sickness in cars, etc.)...you know, to "try out" regarding the side effects?

Now there's bonine & dramamine? they require prescriptions, or are they off the counter drugs you can just purchase? i've never had to deal with this sort of meds, so maybe i'm sounding like an idiot? please forgive...but i need help. And thank you everyone who responded! (and for more to come):wave2:

I would definitely recommend you try them out before you even leave on your vacation to know how you react to them. I wish I had done that with the patch because I was deathly allergic to it and I could have saved myself 3 days of misery laying in my cabin and $$ at the medical center on board.

Dramamine Less Drowsy and Bonine are essentially the same thing. Their common active ingredient is Meclizine which is usually cheaper to buy rather than the Dramamine or Bonine. You can buy Dramamine Less Drowsy, Bonine or regular Dramamine in usually any drug store over the counter without a prescription. Meclizine you can also get without a prescription but we've found we had to ask the pharmacist for it. The cost is generally 8-12 tablets of Bonine or Dramamine Less Drowsy for about 6-8 dollars. We get 100 tablets of Meclizine for about the same cost. My suggestion would be to try them out at home, if you drink alcohol try it out with alcohol if you plan to drink on the cruise and see how they affect you and your body. If you can tolerate them and have no side effects I would suggest starting to take them 1-2 days before you leave on your trip and then we usually take 1 tablet in the morning as soon as our feet hit the floor when waking up. I would suggest taking it until you get home for a day or two after just to help you get your "land legs" back under you.

Dramamine is a different active ingredient than Dramamine Less Drowsy or Bonine so make sure you try it out as well if you want to go that route. We havent had good luck with the regular Dramamine it made us just sleep the days away (which is one of the reasons we tried it out at home).

There are prescription patches you can put behind your ear but your doctor would have to give you those. They have some pretty serious side effects and I would suggest really trying those out before you go if you want to go that route. You can go to http://www.transdermscop.com/site2/view-insert.html if you are interested in that at all.

Hope this helps!
