Search woes ...

Does anyone know why access to the search function keeps coming and going? Sometimes I feel like I might be asking questions that have already been asked before, but 9 times out of 10 the search function has been disabled by the moderator. Or I'll be able to search for one phrase, and then when I try another search, I get an error saying it's been disabled. It makes me feel like I've been naughty somehow!

It's just weird ... Is this a trend, or is there some kind of problem with searching the DIS?

No problem and you haven't been bad(at least not that I know of ) When the server gets busy the search shuts down, might be automatic I'm not sure. With it off it makes everything run faster or better. Nights are usually a good time to use it.

If it's a server issue, I completely understand. It's just funny, it always seems like I'll be able to search one time, and then the ability to search is gone again. I feel like I ought to stand in the corner and recite the lyrics to "It's A Small World Afterall" a hundred times or something. LOL!

The search function is regulated by server load. It automatically shuts its self down during our heavy use periods, normally those are around mid day [lunch time] and early evening after dinner. The best time to use this feature is during low usage, which for a poster is tough to guess. Just give it a shot, as I said it depends how many people are on the boards when you try.

Yeah, I do notice that the boards tend to slow down at certain points of the day ... Thanks for the info, Patrick!

Try around 3 in the morning or stop what your doing and try in the middle of a major holiday, you should have a shot then!
