Search Bar on phone

When attempting a search on an iPhone, the search bar appears but it does not allow me to type in it.

I find it works if I double-tap in the search field, then it lets me type

I’ve done that before too and was successful. However lately, for me, the double tap no longer works either.

I’ve had to use the Advanced Search lately
